Health & Safety Specialist

Location: Cleveland, OH Cleveland‑Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Health & Safety Specialist at our Cleveland, Ohio facility. This role provides leadership and technical expertise to support a proactive, prevention‑based approach to occupational health and safety. The Health & Safety Specialist serves as an effective facilitator and trusted advisor to leadership and employees, ensuring strong safety performance, OSHA compliance, and continuous improvement across the facility. Summary of Responsibilities Actively participate in and support the company and site Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention Program Engage with employees at all levels of the organization to identify, address, and resolve health and safety concerns Support the Cleveland-Cliffs Steel health and safety programs, protocols, and management systems Participate in the Joint Safety and Health program with local union and company leadership Serve as a coach and mentor to line managers and supervisors, supporting execution of safety leadership responsibilities Investigate, review, and respond to employee safety and health issues, concerns, and improvement suggestions Communicate injuries and safety‑related incidents to operations leadership and the Manager of Health, Safety, and Security, as directed Participate in and lead injury and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development Support and participate in regulatory inspections, as assigned Develop, conduct, and coordinate safety training for employees, new hires, contractors, and vendors Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance Provide technical guidance and mentoring related to safety initiatives, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices Collect, analyze, and trend safety data (e.g., injuries, illnesses, near‑misses, work orders, audits, inspections, investigations) Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule, including extended hours and weekends, as operational needs require Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or 3–5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment Experience working in a manufacturing facility Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently, promote teamwork, earn trust, and lead by example Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field Professional safety certification (CSP, CIH, ASP, or similar) Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment OSHA 500 or OSHA 501 certification Relocation assistance is not provided for this position. The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $95,000. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
