RESPIRATORY THERAPIST (RRT/CRT) – LONG-TERM ASSIGNMENT
Location: Akron Campus – Akron, Ohio
Department: Respiratory Care
Assignment Duration: June 28, 2026 – August 22, 2026
Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Facility Type: Adult Acute Care | Level I Trauma Center

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Respiratory Therapist to join a high-acuity Respiratory Care team at a nationally recognized Level I Trauma Center. The Respiratory Therapist will provide comprehensive respiratory care services to adult patients in acute care, critical care, emergency, and trauma settings. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical assessment skills, experience with advanced respiratory equipment, and the ability to respond effectively during emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, evaluate, and monitor patients requiring respiratory therapy interventions.
• Verify physician orders and ensure appropriateness of prescribed respiratory treatments.
• Administer respiratory therapies, oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and medical gases.
• Manage invasive and non-invasive ventilation therapies.
• Operate and troubleshoot respiratory care equipment including ventilators and transport devices.
• Monitor patient response to treatment and document findings accurately in the medical record.
• Communicate significant patient changes to physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Participate in emergency response situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and rapid response events.
• Educate patients and families regarding respiratory treatments and disease management.
• Assist with department quality improvement initiatives and patient care planning.
• Maintain equipment readiness, supply inventory, and medication stock levels.
• Complete all required documentation, billing, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Equipment Experience Preferred

Candidates should have experience with:

• Puritan Bennett 980 (PB980) Ventilator
• Puritan Bennett 840 (PB840) Ventilator
• V60 Non-Invasive Ventilator
• Epoc Handheld Blood Gas Analyzer
• ParaPac Plus Transport Ventilator

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Minimum of 2 years of recent Respiratory Therapy experience in an acute care hospital setting.
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential preferred.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) candidates may be considered if Registry Eligible and possess relevant acute care experience.
• Current State Respiratory Therapy License (or eligibility to obtain prior to start).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
