Why This Opportunity Stands Out for the Controller Join a growing construction company with a strong portfolio of commercial projects Partner directly with senior leadership and play a visible role in strategic decision-making Lead financial operations across multiple active projects and business entities Opportunity to improve processes, reporting capabilities, and financial controls Collaborative culture that values accountability, teamwork, and professional growth Long-term career path with the ability to influence the future direction of the finance function Key Responsibilities for the Controller Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activities Serve as the primary financial resource for project managers and operations teams regarding project accounting matters Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAP requirements Manage project billing processes, contract reviews, and customer invoicing requirements Monitor project cash flow, profitability, and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules Analyze project performance, identify financial risks, and recommend corrective actions when necessary Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation Collaborate with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning initiatives Review contract terms to ensure proper treatment of billing schedules, retainage, and project revenue recognition Support internal and external audit requests and maintain organized financial documentation Develop, mentor, and manage accounting team members while promoting best practices and process consistency Drive continuous improvement efforts by enhancing reporting tools, workflows, and financial processes Preferred Qualifications For The Controller Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience within the construction industry Strong knowledge of GAAP, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and WIP reporting Experience managing project accounting for commercial construction projects Understanding of contract billing, retainage, lien regulations, and construction financial practices Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights Experience leading accounting teams and developing staff Advanced proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across finance, operations, and executive leadership teams Ideal Background Construction, engineering, specialty contracting, or other project-based industry experience Hands-on exposure to project financial management and operational partnership Track record of improving accounting processes, controls, and reporting infrastructure Comfortable operating in a growth-oriented environment where adaptability and initiative are highly valued #J-18808-Ljbffr
