Election Worker - Office Specialist (Extra Help, Seasonal)

PEOPLE FIRST – Conduct fair, accurate, secure, and transparent elections to increase public participation and confidence. The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Worker – Office Specialists to assist in the upcoming November 3, 2026 Statewide General Election . This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the election process. The Elections Division is an exciting, fast‑paced environment, especially as elections approach. It offers the chance to work with a dynamic, well‑organized, and highly efficient team committed to the democratic process. Responsibilities Onboarding of new employees Perform a variety of support work: maintain files, create reports, review materials for accuracy, completeness and compliance with departmental policies and regulations Demonstrate proficiency in computer and software use, strong communication and organizational skills Additional related duties may be assigned Job Details Classification: Office Specialist Hourly wage: starts at $31.61 (overtime expected for most positions) Employment type: Extra‑help, at‑will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Hours may vary; employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours per fiscal year. Some extra‑help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Office hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Positions require overtime, including long hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Any authorized time worked more than 40 hours in a workweek shall be compensable at one and one-half times the regular rate. Employment period: Must be available full time for the entire assignment until the completion of the election. The last anticipated day of employment will be ten days after Election Day, November 13, 2026. Qualifications Office Specialist candidates should have strong organizational abilities, computer proficiency, and attention to detail. They should prioritize work, learn new tasks quickly, and effectively follow oral and written directions.
