Maintenance Welder This role focuses on welding and fabricating ramps, decks, and loading systems for a variety of specialized applications, including motorsports-related equipment. You will use your MIG and TIG aluminum welding skills to read and interpret blueprints, produce high-quality welds, and contribute to a growing, family-owned fabrication shop that values continuous learning and professional development. Responsibilities Weld and fabricate ramps, decks, and loading systems according to project specifications and blueprints. Read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings to ensure accurate measurements and precise welds. Perform MIG and TIG welding on aluminum components in a production environment. Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment and related tools, including PPE and helmets provided on-site. Inspect welds and finished products for quality, accuracy, and structural integrity, making adjustments as needed. Handle and move materials and finished products safely, including operating a forklift where required. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, meet production deadlines, and support special projects. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and comfortable work area, even in slightly dusty conditions. Participate in specialized welding projects, including military welding training assignments, as opportunities arise. Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow into more advanced fabrication and welding responsibilities. Essential Skills Proven experience with MIG welding, particularly on aluminum components. Proficiency in TIG welding with a focus on aluminum applications. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings accurately. Hands-on experience in a production environment, ideally in fabrication or manufacturing. Capability to operate a forklift or willingness to learn safe forklift operation. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds. Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow within a family-owned fabrication shop. Basic schooling or formal training related to welding, fabrication, or a similar technical discipline. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with aluminum fabrication (FAB) in a production or shop setting. Prior exposure to military or specialized welding projects, or interest in receiving military welding training. Comfort working with ramps, decks, loading systems, and similar structural components. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused environment while also handling tasks independently. Interest in long-term career growth and advancement within a stable fabrication operation. Work Environment The shop operates multiple shift options, including a first shift from 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday with additional hours available on Fridays, and a weekend shift from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a shift premium. Additional hours during the week are available for those who want them. The facility is clean, comfortable, and temperature-controlled, with a slightly dusty environment typical of fabrication work. The workplace provides necessary protective equipment, including PPE and helmets, and uses standard welding and fabrication tools along with forklifts for material handling. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and comfort while supporting steady production work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mequon, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
