Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered. This is a non-exempt position, and the full hourly rate range for the Accountant I is $26.58 - $39.88. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. A minimum of three years of general accounting experience. Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered. The full salary range for the Accountant II is $66,010.10 - $99,015.02. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. A minimum of five (5) years of professional accounting experience. Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered. The full salary range for the Accountant III is $76,877.06 - $122,804.24.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Accountant I is responsible for general accounting duties in the Human Services Finance department, by applying accounting principles and concepts, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, financial reports, financial projects, financial analysis, and other related projects.

DUTIES:

Prepares specified interim financial reports to assist management with tracking contracts, expenditures and revenues. Assists with interim and annual audits by researching accounting transactions and providing documents for review as requested. Performs reconciliations of data and reports between accounting systems ensuring propriety of amount, accounting distribution and funding source. Enters, verifies, and maintains data within the financial software systems and spreadsheets. Creates reports from the software systems to assist with the annual budget development and fiscal compliance. Prepares accounting journal entries ensuring appropriate documentation and classification. Processes contracts within County policies and in accordance with relevant State and Federal regulations for Human Services programs. Analyzes and evaluates requests for necessary technical data such as quantity, specifications, authorizations, and required documentation. Participates in work groups, activities and training to enhance knowledge in program areas, computer systems, and policies. Manages monthly billing for service providers including: reviewing monthly provider invoices; verifying accurate recording of billing details, reconciling identified billing errors, entering rate details into the Trails database, and liaise with service providers on processes, quality assurance, and conflict resolution. Responsible for reviewing employee bi-weekly payroll and reports for accuracy, and communicates with employees and supervisors regarding time keeping issues. Also trains department staff on ESS/MSS system.

REQUIREMENTS:

Skills, Abilities and Competencies: Working knowledge of basic accounting, budget, contracts and purchasing principles. Intermediate proficiency of Excel and knowledge of various county and state software applications is required. Ability to use logic and problem-solving skills to include computer systems, software, and procedural issues. Organizes and prioritizes work activities so that work is completed accurately and efficiently. Excellent time management skills are required. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Interacts professionally with team members in a collaborative problem-solving environment. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with County and State personnel. Willingness to learn and take on new challenges. Post-Employment Requirements: Will require fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.

Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
