Maintenance Technician III

Job Title: Maintenance Technician III – All Shifts Available Job Description This role focuses on performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on complex material handling and sorting systems during the 3rd shift. You will ensure the reliability and safe operation of conveyors, automated rollers, pneumatic sorters, and associated equipment by diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues, supporting continuous improvement, and documenting all work in a computerized maintenance management system. Responsibilities Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on material handling systems, including conveyors, automated rollers, pneumatic sorters, and sorting equipment to maximize uptime and reliability. Complete full preventive maintenance routines, including inspection, lubrication, adjustments, and critical parts replacement in accordance with maintenance schedules and standards. Diagnose and repair mechanical failures by changing motors, replacing belts, removing and installing conveyor slats, and servicing gearboxes, bearings, pulleys, and other power transmission components. Troubleshoot electrical issues using schematics, manufacturer’s manuals, engineering specifications, and digital multimeters to identify and correct faults in motor control circuits and related systems. Troubleshoot controls-related issues by reading and interpreting PLC programs, connecting to PLC processors for diagnostics, and supporting the resolution of complex control problems. Work with industrial networks such as ControlNet and DeviceNet to support communication and control of automated equipment. Create, modify, and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to guide repairs, upgrades, and equipment improvements. Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document maintenance activities, manage and close work orders, and track equipment history and performance. Support a safe and compliant work environment by following safety procedures, reporting hazards, and ensuring equipment is maintained to required standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate maintenance activities, minimize downtime, and support operational goals. Assist lower-level technicians by providing guidance, sharing technical knowledge, and supporting on-the-job training. Escalate complex controls or equipment issues when necessary to ensure timely resolution and minimal impact on operations. Manage time effectively by prioritizing tasks, responding to urgent maintenance needs, and completing assignments within required timeframes. Communicate clearly with supervisors, peers, and other departments regarding equipment status, maintenance needs, and completed work. Essential Skills 4+ years of industrial maintenance experience with a focus on automated or material handling equipment. Strong mechanical skills, including experience with motors, belts, gearboxes, bearings, pulleys, and other power transmission components. Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic systems. Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems. Hands‑on experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical systems using digital multimeters and electrical schematics. Experience with PLC troubleshooting, including reading and interpreting PLC programs and connecting to PLC processors. Ability to work with motor control circuits and related electrical components. Ability to read, create, and modify mechanical drawings and electrical schematics. Experience using CMMS software to document maintenance activities and manage work orders. Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical issues in an industrial environment. Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with technicians and other departments. Strong teamwork, organization, and time management skills. Ability to assist and mentor lower-level technicians and support their development. Ability to work 3rd shift, 12‑hour shifts from approximately 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on assigned days. Ability to regularly walk, sit, stand, perform computer work, and safely lift up to 50 pounds. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with industrial networks such as ControlNet and DeviceNet. Ability to burn EEPROMs and support related PLC memory and configuration tasks. Comfort interpreting manufacturer’s manuals and engineering specifications for troubleshooting and repairs. Experience supporting system reliability efforts and continuous improvement of automated equipment. Strong attention to detail when documenting work and updating technical records. Willingness to work in a non‑climate controlled environment. Flexibility to work a schedule that includes Thursday night through Sunday morning. Work Environment This position operates on all shift, openings ranging hours across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift schedule consisting of 12‑hour shifts from approximately 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Thursday night through Sunday morning. The role includes additional shift premiums for qualifying hours. The work takes place in a non‑climate controlled industrial environment, where temperatures may vary with the seasons. You will regularly walk, sit, stand, perform computer work, and lift up to 50 pounds while working around conveyors, automated rollers, pneumatic sorters, and other material handling equipment. The environment is hands‑on and equipment‑focused, requiring consistent adherence to safety procedures and appropriate attire suitable for an industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Prairie Du Chien, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $36.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
