The Coach provides targeted support to students experiencing academic, attendance, behavioral, social-emotional, or other barriers to success and serves as a key member of each school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process. Through data analysis, student advocacy, case management, intervention coordination, family engagement, and collaboration with school and community partners, the Coach helps ensure that students receive timely, appropriate, and effective support. The Student Success and Support Coach complements the work of school counselors, administrators, teachers, social workers, psychologists, and other student services personnel while maintaining a primary focus on students who require additional support to be successful in high school and prepared for graduation and postsecondary opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Success and Academic Support Identify and monitor students who demonstrate academic, attendance, behavioral, social-emotional, or other indicators of being at risk. Develop, coordinate, and monitor individualized Student Success Plans for identified students. Meet individually and in small groups with students to establish goals, identify barriers, develop strategies, and monitor progress. Provide ongoing coaching, encouragement, accountability, and problem-solving support to students. Monitor course performance, credit accumulation, grade-level progression, and other indicators of progress toward graduation. Collaborate with school counselors and administrators to identify students who are off track for graduation and coordinate appropriate interventions. Support students participating in credit recovery, academic intervention, alternative learning opportunities, and other programs designed to promote successful completion of high school. Assist students with developing organizational, self-advocacy, goal-setting, decision-making, and other skills that contribute to academic and personal success. Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Serve as a key member of the MTSS team at each assigned high school. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the school's MTSS framework. Coordinate and monitor Tier II and Tier III interventions for identified students. Facilitate or participate in student problem-solving and intervention meetings. Assist school teams in identifying student needs and matching students with appropriate evidence-based interventions and supports. Maintain appropriate documentation of interventions, progress monitoring, and student outcomes. Analyze intervention data to determine effectiveness and recommend modifications when students are not demonstrating adequate progress. Promote consistent implementation and progress monitoring of student interventions across the school. Attendance and Student Engagement Monitor attendance data and identify students demonstrating patterns of chronic absenteeism, disengagement, or school avoidance. Conduct student and family conferences to identify barriers contributing to attendance concerns. Develop and monitor attendance improvement and re-engagement plans. Collaborate with administrators, school counselors, social workers, teachers, families, and community agencies to address barriers to regular school attendance. Support students returning to school following extended absences, suspensions, alternative placements, or other interruptions to their education. Develop strategies to increase students' sense of belonging, connection, motivation, and engagement with school. Behavioral and Social-Emotional Support Provide appropriate individual and small-group student support within the scope of the employee's professional license and training. Assist students in developing problem-solving, coping, conflict-resolution, self-management, and decision-making skills. Collaborate with school personnel to develop and monitor behavioral and social-emotional interventions. Support restorative practices and other approaches designed to strengthen relationships and promote positive student behavior. Assist with student crisis response, safety planning, and referrals in accordance with district procedures and the employee's professional scope of practice. Connect students and families with school-based and community-based mental health, social service, and other support resources when appropriate. Graduation and Dropout Prevention Utilize early warning indicators to identify students at risk of course failure, grade retention, dropping out, or failing to graduate on time. Maintain a targeted caseload of students requiring intensive monitoring and support. Collaborate with counselors, administrators, teachers, and families to develop plans for students who are off track for graduation. Monitor the effectiveness of dropout prevention and student re-engagement efforts. Support efforts to reconnect students who have withdrawn, disengaged, or are considering leaving school prior to graduation. Assist students in understanding the connection between high school success, graduation, and postsecondary opportunities. Family and Community Engagement Establish positive and productive relationships with parents, guardians, and families. Maintain regular communication with families of students receiving targeted interventions. Facilitate student success conferences involving students, families, teachers, administrators, counselors, and other appropriate personnel. Assist families in identifying and accessing school, district, and community resources. Develop partnerships with community organizations and agencies that can provide additional resources and support to students and families. Serve as an advocate for students while promoting shared responsibility among the student, family, school, and community. Data Analysis and Progress Monitoring Utilize multiple sources of student data to identify needs and prioritize interventions. Regularly review academic performance, attendance, discipline, credit accumulation, graduation status, and intervention data. Maintain accurate records regarding student contacts, interventions, referrals, and progress. Provide principals and district leadership with regular updates regarding student needs, intervention effectiveness, trends, and outcomes. Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of student support strategies and recommend adjustments as needed. Assist school leadership teams in identifying schoolwide trends and developing proactive strategies to address barriers to student success. Collaboration and School Support Work collaboratively with principals, assistant principals, school counselors, social workers, school psychologists, teachers, nurses, exceptional children's staff, multilingual learner staff, and other school and district personnel. Participate in student services, MTSS, attendance, school improvement, and other relevant meetings. Maintain regular communication with the leadership and student services teams at both assigned high schools. Help coordinate services across departments and programs to minimize duplication and ensure continuity of student support. Provide consultation and support to teachers and staff regarding strategies for meeting the needs of identified students. Participate in professional development and remain current regarding effective practices in student support, MTSS, attendance, school mental health, dropout prevention, and adolescent development. Perform other duties related to student success and support as assigned by the principals or district administration.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's or master's degree, as required for the applicable professional license, from an accredited college or university in school counseling, social work, psychology, student services, human services, education, or a closely related field. Must hold or be eligible to hold a current professional license or credential as a school counselor, social worker, school psychologist, or other related student services professional acceptable to the district. Knowledge of the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental needs of high school students. Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), intervention planning, progress monitoring, and data-based problem solving. Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with adolescents, families, school personnel, and community partners. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and professional ethical standards. Strong written, verbal, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively manage a student caseload and responsibilities across multiple school sites.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in school counseling, social work, school psychology, education, or a related student services field. Three or more years of successful experience working with middle or high school students. Experience as a school counselor, school social worker, school psychologist, student support professional, or similar position. Experience implementing or leading MTSS processes. Experience working with students who are academically at risk, chronically absent, disengaged, or at risk of dropping out. Experience with graduation tracking, dropout prevention, attendance improvement, behavioral interventions, or student case management. Experience collaborating with families and community agencies. Knowledge of North Carolina graduation requirements, student services practices, and educational regulations.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Demonstrated contribution to a positive, supportive, and student-centered school culture.ROLE WITHIN THE STUDENT SERVICES TEAM
The Student Success and Support Coach is designed to complement and extend the capacity of each high school's existing student services program. The position does not eliminate or diminish the need for comprehensive school counseling services. The Coach's primary emphasis is on targeted student intervention, MTSS coordination, attendance, engagement, progress monitoring, graduation support, and removal of barriers to student success. Responsibilities requiring a specific professional credential or license shall only be performed when permitted by the employee's license, training, applicable law, and district policy. Because the position requires an appropriately licensed student services professional, the individual may provide additional services within the scope of that professional license when needed and assigned.WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Student Success and Support Coach will maintain a regular presence at both assigned high schools. The schedule will be established collaboratively by the principals and district administration based upon student needs, enrollment, school schedules, and identified priorities. Although shared between two schools, the position is intended to function as an integrated member of the student services and leadership support structure at both campuses, with flexibility to respond to emerging student needs.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
