Responsibilities Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Identify and document initial observation and assessment of the patient's needs for immediate nursing action. Systematically and accurately assess nursing needs of the patient to detect pertinent changes in the clinical picture. Select, plan, evaluate, and document care based on this assessment. Assess, intervene, and document appropriately to meet patient's educational, psychosocial, and discharge planning needs. Initiate appropriate referrals to other departments, services, and/or outside agencies for patient care. Initiate and follow through with patient and family teaching. Consult with unit Nursing Leadership regarding significant changes in patient’s condition. Communicate relevant patient care information on a shift-to-shift report. Utilize patient care standards in clinical practice. Collaborate with all members of the health care team. Document pertinent information regarding patient’s response to treatment and progression toward discharge goals in patient’s chart. Complete Admission, Discharge, and Groups in electronic medical records. Seek clarification of physician's orders that are unclear or inappropriate. Interpret clinical data and notify the physician promptly if immediate changes in management are indicated. Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds by presenting findings on patients as it relates to admission/discharge, and groups on disease specific topics. Apply principles of infection control and safety. Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Understand and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct. Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements. Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with patient expectations. Other duties as assigned: orient patients to new environment, assist in data collection and analysis of Quality of groups, utilize hospital computer system, assist other personnel, respond to hospital codes, attend monthly unit meetings, participate in continuing education activities, keep up to date with current trends. Position Qualifications Current NJ licensure as RN required. BLS Certification required. One-year behavioral health experience with a focus on admissions, discharges, and group management related to Depressive Disorders and Self Harm behaviors preferred. Clinical nursing skills for an experienced behavioral health RN. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position. Ability to work semi-independently under the supervision of NM/ADNs. Education BSN required, or proof of enrollment in an accredited BSN program with completion expected within three (3) years of start date. Job Setting / Physical Demands Behavioral Health Service Units Frequently prolonged standing/walking. Protective clothing worn: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown when required for infection control protocol; otherwise, behavioral health dress code; presentable street clothes.
