Why We Exist

Many students, especially first-generation or underrepresented students, lack consistent access to trusted guidance on college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and career exploration. iLevelUP was created to bridge that gap by offering a comprehensive suite of tools and mentorship that meets students where they are — digitally, intuitively, and with clear pathways toward success.

Help iLevelUP design secure, maintainable integrations for an educational platform supporting underserved youth and young people.

The volunteer API Solutions Architect will define approved service boundaries, contracts, integration patterns, and technical standards that enable reliable product development.

Responsibilities

• Map existing and proposed APIs, data flows, dependencies, trust boundaries, and integration risks
• Translate approved product requirements into documented API contracts and architecture decisions
• Define patterns for authentication, authorization, validation, versioning, errors, idempotency, rate limits, and observability
• Evaluate third-party integrations for privacy, security, accessibility, reliability, cost, and vendor risk
• Support developers with reference designs, reviews, test strategies, and migration plans
• Promote data minimization, least privilege, interoperability, and maintainable ownership
• Document assumptions, alternatives, decisions, risks, and deprecation plans
• Coordinate security and privacy review before implementation
• Never authorize vendors, share data, or change production systems without approval

Qualifications

• Senior experience designing production APIs, distributed systems, integrations, or cloud applications
• Strong REST or GraphQL, identity, data modeling, security, testing, versioning, and observability knowledge
• Ability to communicate architecture clearly to technical and nontechnical collaborators
• Experience with privacy-sensitive or youth-serving technology is helpful
• At least 21 years old and willing to complete screening and confidentiality requirements

This is a remote, project-based or recurring role. Expect approximately 4–8 hours per month.
