We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Engineer to play a pivotal role in supporting a critical manufacturing transition and launch initiative. Our high-volume automotive manufacturing facility specializes in advanced metal stamping, welding, and assembly operations. As a Quality Engineer, you will focus on Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) ownership, customer submissions, quality documentation, and launch readiness activities related to tooling transfers, equipment installations, engineering changes, and future production programs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage PPAP submissions involving initial samples, engineering changes, prototype builds, and pilot programs.

• Prepare and submit complete PPAP packages through applicable customer portals.

• Serve as the primary owner of customer submission activities, ensuring compliance with customer-specific requirements.

• Support manufacturing transfers, tooling moves, equipment launches, and production readiness activities.

• Prepare and maintain required quality documentation, including Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Inspection Instructions, and more.

• Review supplier PPAP documentation and determine acceptance or rejection based on customer and internal requirements.

• Develop and maintain inspection, testing, and evaluation standards.

• Create forms, procedures, and instructions used to collect and report quality and reliability data.

• Investigate and resolve internal and customer quality concerns.

• Perform Layered Process Audits (LPAs) and follow up on corrective actions.

• Ensure timely completion of customer corrective actions and verification of preventive actions to eliminate repeat issues.

• Provide guidance and training to production associates and quality technicians regarding quality requirements and documentation practices.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives, waste reduction efforts, and operational excellence programs.

• Support compliance with IATF, ISO, TPM, and other company quality initiatives.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience within automotive manufacturing.

• Extensive hands-on experience developing and submitting complete PPAP packages.

• Strong understanding of customer quality requirements and customer portal submissions.

• Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, Control Plans, PFMEA, Process Flow Diagrams, MSA, SPC, and Corrective Action Methodologies.

• Willingness to work on a contract basis with potential for direct hire.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related technical discipline preferred.

• Experience in automotive stamping, welding, or assembly.

• Experience supporting structural automotive components or vehicle frame/body systems.

• Familiarity with IATF, ISO, Layered Process Audits (LPA), and TPM initiatives.

Work Environment

The position is based in a high-volume automotive manufacturing facility with over 300 associates. The facility houses approximately 30 presses along with extensive robotic welding and assembly equipment. The work involves supporting production launches and ensuring manufacturing readiness during a significant transition phase. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to quality standards in a fast-paced environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Belleville, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.
