Position Overview Organization: Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Title: Assistant Professor WOT (Pain Psychologist) – Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine Position Description The University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of November 2026 or thereafter. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full‑time or part‑time basis for a twelve‑month appointment. This position is without tenure due to funding. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi‑year appointments that align with a 12‑month service period (July 1–June 30). Faculty with 12‑month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12‑month period (July–June), meaning an equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Salary and academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. The base salary range for this position will be $9,167 – $10,834 per month ($110,004 – $130,008 annually), commensurate with experience, qualifications and academic rank, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through the UWP practice plan. Compensation provided by the UWP practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. For practitioners holding an appointment in the physicians practice plan, see the link for additional benefits that may be available at UWP: Responsibilities Primary clinical appointment as a clinical psychologist at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC)-Center for Pain Relief. Clinical duties include outpatient assessment (e.g., spinal cord stimulator evaluations, bio‑psycho‑social intake evaluations) and psychotherapy as part of the UWMC‑Center for Pain Relief. Assist in the development of comprehensive treatment plans and provide consultation with Center for Pain Relief pain physicians and advanced practice providers for patients with depression, anxiety disorder, and PTSD with co‑existing pain diagnoses. Utilize evidence‑based psychotherapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness/meditation, motivational interviewing, and hypnosis for chronic pain and other comorbid concerns. Support the department’s future expansion of clinical service delivery, including potential transdisciplinary care involvement or additional therapeutic modalities. Qualifications Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) in psychology. Completion of internship in an APA‑approved clinical psychology graduate school program.
