Healthyhorns is the umbrella brand encompassing University Health Services, Counseling and Mental Health Center and Longhorn Wellness Center. Together, the departments work to enhance the health and well‑being of students’ bodies, minds and lives in support of their academic and personal goals. The Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) is the health promotion unit servicing University Health Services and Counseling and Mental Health Center. Staff focuses on educating students about priority college health issues by hosting workshops and events, creating new tools, and collaborating with the campus community to enhance overall well‑being. Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an accredited on‑campus mental health facility dedicated to supporting the well‑being of UT Austin students. CMHC offers a range of services, including assessment and referral, group and individual counseling, psychiatry and well‑being services. University Health Services (UHS) is an accredited on‑campus medical facility dedicated to addressing the varied healthcare needs of UT Austin students. UHS provides comprehensive services, including general medical care, public health education and specialty clinics. Purpose The Program Manager, Well‑being in Learning Environments provides strategic leadership and day‑to‑day management for the Well‑being in Learning Environments (WBLE) program, partnering with faculty, academic units, and campus leaders to embed well‑being practices into teaching, curriculum, and classroom environments. This role drives program growth and institutional impact by building cross‑campus relationships, overseeing assessment and evaluation efforts, and advancing student health and well‑being in partnership with the Longhorn Wellness Center and SHIFT. Responsibilities Program Leadership & Strategic Direction Lead the vision, mission, and strategic direction of the Well‑being in Learning Environments program. Develop and maintain relationships with key faculty champions and department administrators. Maintain alignment between day‑to‑day activities and long‑term project goals. Align program goals with institutional priorities related to student success and campus well‑being. Develop working relationships with key administrators and faculty to help advance student wellbeing in academic settings. Serve as a campus leader and advocate for integrating well‑being into teaching, curriculum design, and learning environments. Program Management and Operations Manage the day‑to‑day operations of the program, including planning, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement. Develop a yearly workplan that identifies opportunities for program maintenance and growth. Develop a deep understanding of the WBLE dataset to date and formulate an assessment plan moving forward. Occasionally present WBLE to stakeholders which may include staff, administrators, students, and/or potential faculty partners. Work closely with campus partners to embed wellbeing in learning environments including academic teaching and learning centers in the colleges, schools and units, and other closely aligned departments. Act as a coach to help faculty make small tweaks to their classroom environments to improve student health and wellbeing. Identify and find ways to acknowledge/celebrate faculty who are committed to supporting student health and wellbeing. Consultation, Faculty Engagement, and Campus Partnerships Serve as a consultant to faculty, academic units, and campus leaders on well‑being‑informed teaching and learning practices. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the research behind these practices; be able to articulate the rationale behind various strategies in the classroom for student wellbeing. Partner with Longhorn Wellness Center staff, SHIFT, academic departments, advising centers, faculty affairs, student engagement offices, and institutional leadership to co‑develop initiatives. Develop a sense of the academic landscape to better understand how and where wellbeing practices can be embedded. Design and facilitate workshops, trainings, and learning communities focused on well‑being in classrooms and academic programs. Build strong relationships with advisory committees, and cross‑campus working groups or similar groups to advance the work of Well‑being in Learning Environments. Program Expansion & Institutional Impact Identify opportunities to expand the program’s reach across colleges, departments, and other campus units. Lead the development of new initiatives, pilots, and partnerships that integrate well‑being into academic policies and practices. Use data and outcomes to inform scaling efforts and institutional adoption of successful practices. Assessment, Research & Communication Oversee program evaluation efforts to assess impact on learning environments, well‑being outcomes, and academic engagement. Collaborate with institutional research and assessment partners to align metrics with campus data systems. Disseminate findings and best practices through reports, presentations, and scholarly or professional venues. Communicate program impact to senior leadership, faculty, and campus stakeholders. Student Development and Impact of SHIFT and Longhorn Wellness Center’s Health and Well‑Being Work As needed, support implementation of initiatives within the Longhorn Wellness Center and SHIFT. Participate in LWC and SHIFT committees and working groups as an active participant to advance campus health goals. Participate in departmental, university, and/or other committees as appropriate. Contribute ideas and engage in problem solving in program development and planning meetings. Create program plans for health initiatives that include evidence informed foundations, clear objectives and learning outcomes, timelines and an evaluation plan. Develop programmatic budgets and submit funding proposals for new needs. Keep up to date with current best practices and knowledge of relevant college health frameworks. Supervise Student Staff, Interns, and Student Projects Meet regularly with part‑time student staff to provide guidance, development, and feedback related to the completion of their responsibilities. Recruit, interview, and hire student staff and interns as needed. Oversee and supervise other undergraduate and graduate student health promotion project groups (within and outside the LWC). Administrative Tasks and Other Duties as Assigned and May Arise Participate in departmental or university committees as appropriate. Contribute ideas and engage in problem solving in program development and planning meetings. Attend meetings as assigned and respond to emails in a timely manner. Actively participate in Longhorn Wellness Center team efforts, including staff development. Attend professional conferences to represent health promotion work at UT Austin. Complete other duties as needed. Qualifications Required Master’s degree in education, teaching, public health, education, social work, psychology, higher education administration, or a related field. Eight years of progressively responsible experience in a teaching environment. Demonstrated experience leading and managing programs within a higher education or academic setting. Experience teaching at an institution of higher education Experience working collaboratively with faculty and academic leadership. Strong consultation, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to lead teams of faculty Demonstrated project management skills. Preferred Doctoral degree or terminal degree in a relevant field. Experience with teaching and learning initiatives, faculty development, or student success efforts. Experience with program evaluation, grant development, or externally funded initiatives. Experience in coaching individuals toward a common goal. Salary Range $90,000 + depending on qualification Working Conditions May work around standard office conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Exposure to chemicals and commercial items typically found in office, medical clinics, and building repairs/maintenance. Retirement Plan Eligibility The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
