Job Description

This role focuses on performing high-quality MIG welding on various projects and custom fabrications. You will work from blueprints at your own workbench, welding mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum in a clean, well-equipped, and supportive production environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on 7-gauge and 10-gauge steel tanks and related steel welding projects.

• Complete welds using mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials with consistent quality and adherence to specifications.

• Interpret and work from blueprints to execute custom welding and fabrication projects accurately.

• Set up and operate welding equipment, including wire feed MIG machines, to perform required welds.

• Fit and position steel components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and structural integrity.

• Conduct welds at your own designated workbench, maintaining an organized and efficient workspace.

• Inspect completed welds for quality, strength, and compliance with project requirements, making adjustments as needed.

• Collaborate with team members in the welding and fabrication areas to meet production schedules and project deadlines.

• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating welding equipment and working in the fabrication environment.

• Maintain tools, welding booths, and equipment in good working condition and report any issues promptly.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in MIG welding, including wire feed welding on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

• Hands-on experience with steel welding, including work on tanks and similar fabricated structures.

• Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints for custom welding and fabrication projects.

• Strong fitting skills to properly align and prepare steel components prior to welding.

• Demonstrated experience working independently at a welding bench or workstation.

• Solid understanding of welding safety practices and proper use of welding equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Preferred certifications such as AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, D1.6 and/or ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code for piping.

• Experience working in a fabrication or manufacturing environment with multiple welding booths and related equipment.

• Attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, structurally sound welds.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a laid-back but focused production setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in a very clean and bright welding facility that is climate controlled. The atmosphere is fairly laid back, yet everyone stays focused on completing their work. Each welder has their own dedicated work space and bench. The shop includes 24 welding booths, a machining area, and a laser cutting machine, providing access to modern fabrication equipment. Available hours include a second shift from 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with multiple openings. The environment supports both productivity and comfort, with clearly defined workstations and organized production areas.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of HUNTLEY, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
