Maybelle Center is the Community Health Organization working together with neighbors in downtown Portland to reverse the root causes of social isolation. We promote social health by helping create a sense of belonging with adults facing the stigmas of mental health and financial poverty through our neighborhood programs, affordable housing and assisted living services. Specifically, the Neighborhood Programs Team (NPT) engages individuals residing in dozens of affordable housing buildings in Old Town/Downtown Portland, including providing resident services for Macdonald West Apartments. We focus on fostering spaces and programming that emphasize feeling welcomed and included, seen and heard, and valued. We help individuals access essential needs, rise above obstacles, and find belonging within a connected community.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Neighborhood Programs Director leads a collaborative team that is developing and maintaining programs and approaches that address people's basic need to belong. The Director leverages their direct lived experience or previous professional experience working with people experiencing poverty along with ongoing significant physical and/or mental health concerns.

Guided by belonging as a core principle and practice, the Director applies a deep understanding of the strengths and skills needed to address social health when a person is navigating complex barriers. Through this lens, the Director stewards the myriad creative and collaborative opportunities for Maybelle Center Members, staff, and volunteers to experience connection, inclusion, and belonging.

The Director is responsible for the operational success of Maybelle Center Neighborhood Programs ensuring seamless team management and development, program innovation and delivery, and program assessment and evaluation. In addition to leading the Neighborhood Programs Team, the Director also serves on the organization's leadership team and builds strong partnerships with relevant community and neighborhood organizations, community partners, and industry leaders to advance Maybelle Center's mission. This is a Full-time, Exempt, Monday through Friday position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Champion and work closely with staff to consistently identify, set, and track program outcomes and goals that align with the strategic objectives of the Center.
  • Effectively plan projects from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones, processes, and evaluation.
  • Work closely with staff to develop and manage program budgets and resources.
  • Understand and monitor the implementation of the Resident Support Services Contract for the Mac-West Apartment building
  • Be aware of and monitor all contracts and MOUs with program contractors, higher education institutions, and social service partners.
  • Recruit, hire, and oversee initial new hire training and ongoing training /development of all neighborhood programs staff.
  • Lead program staff in Assertive Engagement and de-escalation practices. Regularly use and coach staff in key principles and practices for the team's communication with each other and the people we serve.
  • Lead and work closely with staff to develop objective performance measures across programs and program positions, to ensure consistent, high-quality impact, assessment, evaluation, and goal setting.
  • Act as the "super user" for the Neighborhood Program Teams relational database (Salesforce). Serve as the liaison with the database administrator, be the primary trainer and report generator for neighborhood programs staff.
  • Instill a culture of accountability by modeling effective supervision and reinforcing individual and organizational performance standards across departmental staff and teams.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures; maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Operate out of the Maybelle Center values.

Center Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the organization-wide leadership team.
  • Neighborhood Program liaison to the Board of Directors.
  • Reporting on program performance and progress to executive leadership and board members
  • Actively bridge relationships and programming across the organization.

Community Engagement

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, maintaining current knowledge of social services research, best practices, and trends to inform organizational strategy, program development, and service delivery for Maybelle Center and the diverse populations it serves.
  • Liaison to appropriate committees and task forces.
  • Initiate and maintain strong relationships with city, county, and state agencies and non-governmental organizations that provide essential funding and/or services to the people Maybelle Center serves.

Development and Communications

  • Effectively collaborate with Communications and Development staff.
  • Coordinate Neighborhood Program's contributions to a wide variety of development and communication campaigns throughout the year.
  • Work with Development staff and grant writer to provide timely information, data, ideas and reports.

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree preferred with 5+ years nonprofit program leadership experience in social services, social health, community health, or social work; or 10+ years of nonprofit program leadership experience (including at least 5 years of director level experience) in lieu of a degree.
  • Extensive experience serving and working directly with people experiencing urban poverty and ongoing mental health and/or physical health challenges with a commitment to practicing harm reduction principles.
  • Experience and advanced practice with key concepts from Assertive Engagement such as traumainformed care, strengths-based approach, and unconditional positive regard, including familiarity with non-violent de-escalation techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience building psychologically safe, high-performing teams where diverse voices are valued, systemic barriers are actively dismantled, and co-workers feel a sense of belonging.
  • Strong project and program management skills; managing multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes, program growth and improvement.
  • Experience hiring, training, and supervising staff.
  • Proficient in using technology to support management reporting and decision-making.
  • Excellent at learning and enthusiastic about using client relationship databases, like Salesforce, to support effective data-informed program decisions and evaluation goals.
  • Exhibits initiative, creativity, and enthusiasm to foster teamwork, lead others, and achieve results.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships through excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office Suite; excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Preferred experience with peer and mentor-driven programming.
  • Preferred familiarity with the research coming out of the Othering and Belonging Institute.
  • Preferred experience with event and annual planning.
  • Preferred experience using Salesforce.

  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods as much of the work involves computer use, attending meetings, and administrative tasks.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The role will involve attending off-site meetings and organizational events.

COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE

Salary Range- $108,000- $115,000

Schedule- Full-time, Exempt, Monday through Friday
