Must-Have Requirements:
5–7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
Strong knowledge of GAAP
Experience with financial reporting
Strong experience with account reconciliations , including complex reconciliations
Experience with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close
Experience preparing/reviewing journal entries and accounting transactions
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, expenditure tracking, and budget analysis
Experience reviewing financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
Experience with audit preparation and audit support
Experience developing or monitoring internal controls and accounting procedures
Experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll allocations , and general fiscal activities
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
Proficiency with accounting software, Excel/spreadsheets, and financial reporting systems
Ability to train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to accounting staff
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to work 100% onsite in Abilene, TX
Work schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and good driving record
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Governmental accounting experience
Grant accounting experience
Nonprofit accounting experience
Experience with Workforce Solutions / workforce development
Experience working with federal, state, or local contracts
MIP Fund Accounting Software
CPA certification or currently pursuing CPA
Knowledge of FMGC (Financial Manual for Grants and Contracts)
Experience with government or grant compliance
English/Spanish bilingual
Experience serving as a fiscal/accounting lead
Main Responsibilities
The person will be responsible for:
Preparing and reviewing complex accounting entries and reconciliations
Leading month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
Monitoring contract and grant expenditures
Preparing budgets, forecasts, and spending plans
Preparing financial, budget, and grant reports
Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and contracts
Supporting audits and monitoring reviews
Developing and maintaining internal controls
Reviewing AP, AR, payroll allocations, and other fiscal activities
Researching accounting issues and recommending process improvements
Working with Operations, HR, management, auditors, and funding agencies
Training and providing technical guidance to other accountants
Ideal Candidate
The strongest profile would be a Senior Accountant with 5–7+ years of experience , a Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance , strong GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, month/year-end close, audit, and internal controls experience.
Someone from a government, nonprofit, grant-funded, or workforce development environment would be especially strong. MIP Fund Accounting is a major plus.
