Recreation Coordinator: Aquatics Starting Pay: $21/hour Part-Time | 28 Hours/Week | Paid Training What You’ll Do As a member of the Parks, Recreation and Events team, you will be responsible for the planning, organizing and implementation of recreational activities during the school year and oversee day‑to‑day operations at the Doris E. Buffett Pool during the summer season. Key responsibilities include: Program Development and Implementation – Develop and establish partnerships, promote programming, communicate and coordinate with community partners, evaluate programs via participant surveys. Financial and Administrative Support – Record and track expenses related to programming, assist in development of the annual budget. Staff Management and Training – Hire, support, train, and supervise program staff; develop training materials and collaborate with instructors to ensure a high quality experience. Operations and Logistics – Manage daily pool operations from May 1 to the start of the academic year, including opening/closing duties, inventory, custodial tasks, record management; track expenses, assist with the annual PRE budget, use recreational management software for promotion and scheduling. Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Facility Management, Public Administration, or a related field. 3–5 years of professional‑level, year‑round recreation work, including programming and coordinating recreational activities, or experience in parks, recreation, or special events, or sports facility management. Current CPR/First Aid Certification (can be obtained up to 6 months after hiring). Aquatics Facility Operator or similar Certification (can be obtained up to 6 months after hiring). A valid driver’s license for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Criminal background and driving record checks required. Work Environment The position involves regular performance in settings where errors could lead to significant consequences. Employees may be exposed to outdoor conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, and extreme temperatures and noise. Moderate physical effort is required, involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling heavy objects, and providing balance and coordination. The position will remain open until filled. Questions?
