Job Title High School English Teacher – St. Martin Parish School District Key Requirements and Qualifications Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in Secondary English (Grades 6–12) issued by the Louisiana Department of Education and in accordance with Bulletin 746. Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in English, Secondary Education, or a related field. 2+ years of teaching experience (preferred). In-depth understanding of Louisiana Student Standards for English Language Arts, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language instruction, and curriculum implementation. Strong written and oral communication skills; effective classroom management; ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction to support student achievement. Role and Responsibilities Fulfill all duties traditionally expected of teaching professionals. Design, plan, and deliver student‑centered instruction that follows federal and state regulations and the district’s Personnel Evaluation Plan. Assume responsibility for growth in student learning in the assigned area of instruction. Plan and prepare in advance for teaching of classes and students assigned, providing written evidence that references standards, units, activities, materials, literacy strategies, and evaluation of learner outcomes. Establish learning objectives, incorporate instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques, maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning, enforce rules and expectations, and provide opportunities for student involvement. Implement district‑adopted curriculum with fidelity, differentiate instruction through RTI, and develop intervention plans for students who are not progressing at an acceptable pace. Plan and provide regular, rigorous assessments aligned with state standards and content, and provide timely academic feedback. Understand individualized plans for students with behavior, health, and learning needs; ensure accommodations and modifications. Identify student needs and collaborate with professional staff to develop plans addressing health, behavioral, and learning problems. Provide accommodations and interventions for at‑risk/remedial students or subgroups as appropriate. Provide clear and timely information to parents, caregivers, and colleagues about classroom expectations, student progress, and conduct; be available for parent‑teacher conferences. Assist school administration in implementing policies governing student conduct and safe school operation. Monitor student conduct and enforce policies throughout the school building and grounds. Ensure safe transitions of students between locations. Take precautions to protect students, equipment, books, materials, and facilities. Perform administrative duties: attendance, organizing classroom, responding to emails and phone calls. Maintain a physical classroom environment organized for learning. Keep effective, timely record‑keeping for lesson plans, attendance, grades, inventory, schedules, assessment data, and written work. Prepare lesson plans, seating charts, and other information for substitutes. Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment through team teaching, planning, PLC meetings, grade‑level meetings, staff development, and committees. Serve on special committees (e.g., 504, SBLC, Pupil Progression/IAIP, Crisis, Dyslexia) as required. Provide leadership and supervision for extracurricular activities, ensuring compliance with school policy and safeguarding funds and equipment. Attend after‑school events, faculty meetings, parent/family nights, parent‑teacher conferences, and school orientation as required; high school staff must attend graduation. If assigned to multiple locations, follow the daily schedule provided to supervisors, principals, and teachers. Professional Responsibilities Maintain professional personal appearance, respect for colleagues, and punctuality. Attend work regularly; report on time; provide advance notice of absences. Complete work efficiently, accurately, and within deadlines without supervision. Use time wisely, plan properly, and care for materials and equipment. Maintain confidentiality, demonstrate trustworthiness, and exercise good judgment. Support district initiatives and other programs or directives from the Superintendent and Board. Keep supervisors informed of progress in responsibility areas. Keep abreast professionally through meetings and staff development. Submit forms, reports, documentation, and training on required dates. Remain open to suggestions and innovative ideas, receive and apply feedback. Demonstrate competence in areas of responsibility and involve stakeholders. Communicate appropriately and work effectively with all populations. Exhibit competence, professional appearance, initiative, and genuine concern for others. Follow requirements established by the School Board, State Department of Education, State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and Federal regulations.
