Department:SOM KC Radiation Oncology-Radiation OncologyPosition Title:Research Assistant - ONC Radiation OncologyJob Family Group:Professional StaffJob Description Summary:Dr. Akhavan’s Laboratory in Radiation Oncology seeks a Research Assistant to perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the equipment as required. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.Job Description:Key Roles and Responsibilities:Research Overview: Under the supervision and direction of the PI or other research staff perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes.Compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.Generation of data and documentation of research performed for the preparation of published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.Participate in regular communication with the PIs and Post Doctorial Fellow via lab meetings and personal to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.Order supplies and maintenance of equipment.Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Radiation Oncology Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
