Preschool Teacher - Part Time

SUMMARY Develops and facilitates preschool classroom experiences. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. Implements the Hopkins preschool philosophy, policies, and procedures, utilizing our Reggio-Emilia Inspired approach. Plans, prepares and leads developmentally appropriate activities and special events. Observes, documents and reports individual needs, developmental progress, and specific goals for each child. Maintains frequent written and oral communication with parents regarding their child's growth and development, interests, changes in behavior, and classroom activities; provides resources and referral information when appropriate. Communicates and collaborates with other building staff concerning children who are dual-serviced, incorporating negotiated individual goals for the child into classroom programming. Oversees classroom assistant or volunteer in the classroom. Maintains a clean and safe classroom. Initiates and maintains accurate attendance records, emergency drills, and any other business forms as needed. Gives attention to each student according to their needs and abilities while maintaining supervision and intervening for safety in a timely and appropriate manner. Promotes a positive image of the program by maintaining open and positive communication between the sites, school staff, parents, and community. Attends staff meetings and in-service training when required. Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, or a closely related field. One (1) year of paid experience working with children. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations ECE teaching license or equivalent Driver's license. First Aid/CPR Certification. Required Knowledge and Skills Required Knowledge Understanding of Reggio-Emilia educational philosophy or a willingness to learn District policies and procedures. Classroom policies and procedures. Local community resources, regional community services programs, and regional training programs. Computer applications related to the work. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Required Skills Planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of staff. Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Maintaining order when supervising children, while expressing warmth and friendliness. Operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Mobility to work in a classroom setting, use standard office equipment and stamina to stand for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a classroom setting. Occasional travel required to locations throughout the District.
