Machinist

American Battery Solutions has a full-time opening for a Machinist in Lake Orion, Michigan. The Machinist is responsible for set-up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. They fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, by applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Responsibilities include calculating dimensions or tolerances of workpieces, measuring dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications, machining parts to specifications, setting up, adjusting, or operating machine tools, aligning and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines, mounting attachments or tools onto production equipment, measuring, examining, or testing completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, monitoring the feed and speed of machines during the machining process, monitoring and maintaining equipment operation and machine tools to ensure proper functioning and operational conditions, studying sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, operating equipment to verify operational efficiency, programming computers or electronic instruments, diagnosing machine tool and equipment malfunctions, measuring materials to mark reference points, cutting lines, or other indicators, drawing guidelines or markings on materials or workpieces using patterns or other references, fitting and assembling parts to make or repair assembly tools, conferring with numerical control programmers to check and ensure that new programs or machinery will function properly, and that output will meet specifications, separating scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal, evaluating machining procedures and recommending changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability, dismantling machines or equipment, using hand tools or power tools to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed, ordering and maintaining material for the machine shop and spare parts, building experimental parts for assemblies, adhering to federal and state regulations, adhering to all company policies, processes, and procedures, performing other duties as requested, directed, or assigned, and predictable and reliable attendance.

Position Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent working experience
• Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience.
• Minimum of one (1) year of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations.
• Training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate degree is preferred.
• License or certificates that applies to any training or skill trades classes GD&T/CMM Training, etc.
• Hands-on experience with different manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of the properties of metal and other materials.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills with robust attention to detail.
