Navajo Preference Employment Act Overview The Lead Security Officer is responsible for leading and performing both administrative and operational duties for all security-related functions during an assigned shift. This position provides protection for Tuba City Regional Healthcare Corporation (TCRHCC) personnel, patients, visitors, and property, ensuring a safe and secure environment across the facility. The Lead Security Officer oversees all on-site security operations during their shift and serves as the primary point of contact for law enforcement agencies in the absence of the Assistant Security Manager (ASM) and Security Manager. The role requires sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality. Key responsibilities include supporting and administering organizational security plans, monitoring operations for compliance with established procedures, and assisting with the development and maintenance of security protocols, manuals, and documentation. The Lead Security Officer also maintains inventory of all security-related equipment and coordinates with the ASM to ensure operational readiness. The role requires regular, predictable attendance and the ability to respond promptly to emergencies or critical incidents. Lead Security Officers are subject to callback and are required to be on‑call as needed to maintain 24/7 security operations. Qualifications Necessary Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: One year of supervision OR two (2) years of previous experience providing security services to a large organization or healthcare facility. Acceptable experience includes security roles in the armed services that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. Certification: Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA), if none must obtain within ninety (90) days of employment hire date. Must maintain and have a valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions. Must complete Defensive Tactics certification within 90 days of hire. Must complete Handcuffing certification within 90 days of hire. Must successfully complete the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification for Security Officer and Supervisor Level within six (6) months of hire. Other Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills. Composure under pressure and calm decision‑making in emergencies. Ability to multitask and make quick decisions with clear judgment. Technical proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office). High ethical standards with no history of fraud or conflict of interest. Reliability and consistently punctual attendance. Self‑motivation, organization, and independent work. Successful completion of job interviews, background, and reference checks. Successful completion of fingerprint clearance, physical examination, and other screenings. Submission of all required employment documents without false or incomplete information. Mental and Physical Effort The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical: Work requires frequent driving, climbing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending and carrying, prolonged standing, walking, reaching, and maintaining balance. Lifting and pushing 0–75 lbs. frequently and handling weight 76–100+ lbs. occasionally. Availability for night emergencies; may disrupt sleep. Ability to defend self and detain persons using force if necessary. Visual acuity necessary to observe human movement. Must participate in the physical fitness evaluation completed by the Security Department: 5‑mile timed run, push‑ups (1 minute), sit‑ups (1 minute), sit and reach. Mental: Independent judgment, fairness, and decision‑making under high stress. Ability to manage altercations, maintain concentration, handle multiple priorities, work alone, and adapt to shift work. High patience and flexibility needed in crowded or close environments. Environmental: Prolonged exposure to infectious diseases, extremes in temperature and humidity, loud noises. Frequent exposure to chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, hazardous or moving equipment, and occasional unprotected heights. Responsibilities Essential Functions: Attend and complete all TCRHCC mandatory training. Obtain certification for Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing Tactics, Defense Baton, Pepper Spray Defense, and De‑Escalation within ninety (90) days of employment hire date and maintain certification every two years. Participate in all required quarterly and annual training courses, including the Physical Assessment Battery, Active Shooter Response, Emergency Management, Use of Force protocols, and other assigned training. Maintain at least one current Instructor Certification relevant to security operations (e.g., Defensive Tactics, De‑escalation). Performs all Security Officer duties and oversees Security Officers assigned to a shift. Duties include planning, scheduling, training personnel, and recommending applicants for training or corrective actions. Ensure each officer assigned to the shift has appropriate certification, training, and knowledge in the use of handcuffs, radios, batons, non‑lethal chemical spray, flashlight, and approved restraining techniques. Inspect officers daily for appearance and ID cards. Randomly verify validity of drivers’ licenses and BLS cards. Complete performance evaluation for Security Officers. Execute procedures and processes to provide physical protection for personnel and property and meet required codes and regulations. Communicate clearly and effectively with management, employees, patients, visitors, and vendors. Ensure officers conduct routine security rounds, checking doors and windows, logging any unlocked entries, and notifying supervisors. Unlock buildings/doors after verifying identification and compliance with TCRHCC policies. Assist Security Manager in developing or revising department policies. Administer and ensure security officers adhere to established policies and procedures. Support and conduct internal investigations in accordance with TCRHCC policies; review incident reports for clarity and correctness. Maintain departmental records (daily logs, monthly statistics, briefing logs, and other required documentation) before shift end. Ensure officers clock in/out properly and on time. Assist with administration of security‑related systems (access control, BRIVO system, surveillance cameras, employee ID badges, etc.) during shift. Address security issues or complaints promptly and maintain communication with involved parties. Discuss problems with Assistant Security Manager and Security Manager; report beyond routine activities immediately. Secure lost and found articles, log and arrange return, and dispose of unclaimed items per policy. Participate in the current fire and disaster plan. Conduct minor animal control. Assist with transportation and lifting of decreased patient. Ensure all Security Officers assigned to a shift meet TCRHCC Security Grooming and Uniform Standards. Ensure proper PPE is worn at all times while on duty (face mask, gloves, gown, NIOSH‑approved N95 respirator or higher, eye or face shield). Complete all donning and doffing tasks safely; discard used PPE accordingly (see CDC website for updates). Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for surfaces contaminated by communicable diseases.
