Job Description Summary Utility Technician II – Water Distribution Performs skilled maintenance of water wells, chemical feeder equipment, pumps, motors, telemetering sensory equipment, treated water storage facilities, water distribution pipelines, sanitary sewers, pumping equipment, and water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and operations. Provides direction to peers and subordinates as needed. Salary: $27.55 - $40.90 Hourly | Location: Goodyear, AZ | Job Type: Full‑Time | Division: Water Services | Opening Date: 07/13/2026 | Closing Date: 07/27/2026 5:00 PM Arizona Essential Functions Improve operations by streamlining work processes, reducing turnaround times, and ensuring efficient use of city resources. Deliver outstanding customer service and maintain open communication with internal and external customers. Adhere to industry and city safety standards, including Bluestake, OSHA, and MAG, and submit required safety records. Execute routine and emergency maintenance and repair tasks for infrastructure and equipment in the water distribution division. Install, maintain, replace, and repair water mains, service connections, fire hydrants, valves, and related appurtenances; perform utility locates per Arizona Bluestake law. Act as Distribution Division Senior Technician during absences. Requirements At least two years of related experience. Valid driver’s license and ADEQ Grade I Operator License in Distribution; must obtain ADEQ Grade II and a Commercial Driver’s License within 12 months. Strong reading, writing, math, and technical skills; ability to follow written instructions and perform basic calculations. Experience with light supervisory duties and decision making within general policy guidelines. Ability to use heavy equipment or powered tools and demonstrate interpersonal skills with customers and coworkers. 12‑Month Objectives Within The First Month Attend Goodyear Employee Orientation and complete required training. Review department mission, vision, and core values. Familiarize with Distribution Division SOPs for hydrants, valves, meter operations, service line repairs, and emergency callouts. Participate in daily huddles to understand team priorities. Complete required safety training. Within The First 3 Months Understand distribution system, service area, and critical infrastructure. Perform basic service orders with minimal assistance. Learn 811, MAG, and documentation standards. Operate division software/tools: Field Maps, Tyler Munis, GIS (GYMAPS), and Microsoft Office Suite. Review SOPs for valves, hydrants, and service line repairs and provide feedback. Complete all required computer‑based training modules. Within The First 6 Months Perform hydrant maintenance and valve exercising with minimal assistance. Complete at least one on‑call rotation under supervision. Demonstrate safe operation of backhoe, dump truck, and towing equipment. Know emergency response procedures and traffic control setup. Support teammates during repairs, shutdowns, and customer interactions. Within The First 12 Months Independently maintain hydrants, valves, and meters following SOPs. Operate backhoe, dump truck, and towing equipment safely and effectively. Lead at least one planned shutdown or repair activity. Maintain all required certifications; obtain ADEQ Grade II Water Distribution Certification. Complete all city‑wide mandatory training. Provide excellent customer service and maintain good communication with residents. Participate in core values initiatives and division projects.
