Starting salary: $8,949 monthly / $107,388 annually. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, active State of Tennessee professional engineer status, and at least 6 years of demonstrated competency in developing or constructing transportation projects. Overview The Pavements Asset Senior Transportation Engineer will manage TDOT’s pavement asset management program and software, providing support to project teams responsible for delivering projects across all phases of the Project Delivery Network (PDN) within scope, budget, and risk parameters. The role creates work plans aligned with the Pavements Asset Section’s strategic vision, ensuring necessary resources support program success and fostering collaboration with multiple TDOT divisions, FHWA, contractors, and external stakeholders. This position applies critical thinking and engineering judgment to improve asset safety, performance, sustainability, level of service, and life‑cycle efficiency. Additional duties include compiling data, producing reports aligned with FHWA requirements for the Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP), ensuring policies, standards, and systems remain current, providing training and mentoring, and supporting data sharing for asset information to maintain safety, state of good repair, and service levels across the transportation network. Responsibilities Serve on project teams as part of a matrix organization, providing technical expertise on pavement asset management. Define critical asset goals, evaluate concepts, and assess risk to support project quality and lifecycle outcomes. Coordinate with the Pavements Asset Management Section to establish policies, objectives, and a strategic roadmap. Assist in developing policies, standards, and guidelines aligned with organizational objectives. Support budgeting and funding requests, track program costs, and optimize spending. Establish cross‑functional teams, present resource cases, and collaborate with finance, decision‑makers, planning, and operations. Guide standardization of TDOT asset management priorities and integrate capital, O&M planning and budgeting. Develop long‑term maintenance and rehabilitation strategies based on pavement conditions and risk assessments. Coordinate with divisions and regions to assess pavement needs using condition data. Manage data collection, dashboards, metrics, and analysis to track asset performance. Ensure asset information remains accurate and up to date within asset management systems. Generate reports and outputs aligned with departmental programs and stakeholder needs. Analyze data to identify trends, forecast deterioration, and prioritize assets for intervention. Conduct risk assessments for high‑risk assets and recommend mitigation strategies. Recommend improvements to asset management processes and innovative technologies. Serve on selection committees for professional engineering services (Brooks Act). Provide customer service, mentorship, technical guidance, and effective communication.
