Development Director | Position Description

Position Objective:

Translate Gender is currently seeking a part-time Development Director (15-20 hrs/week). The Development Director will play a key role in the financial sustainability and security of the organization, with a focus on fundraising, development-related marketing, and donor relations.

Translate Gender is a small but growing organization, led by a part-time team and a working Board of Directors. This position is ideal for someone looking to be part of a scrappy and collaborative organization with room to grow. We envision a future where we have a full-time, salaried staff (with benefits!), and we hope that the Development Director will help us make that a reality!

Translate Gender believes in interdependence and collaboration—the more diverse perspectives that can be incorporated into addressing challenges and opportunities, the more insightful and sustainable the solution can be. This core ethic is reflected in our co-directorship leadership structure, and permeates all layers of the organization. Together, the team is responsible for the successful leadership, management, and growth of Translate Gender. The Development Director reports to the Board of Directors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Development

• Spearhead efforts with the Board, Director team, and community members to develop a vision and strategy to guide Translate Gender forward.
• Ensure alignment between Translate Gender development efforts and the organizational mission and values.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for donors, institutional funders, and community members seeking to learn more about supporting Translate Gender’s fundraising goals.
• Create and maintain a fundraising calendar that includes events, digital and hybrid campaigns (Pride month, end-of-year, etc), significant fundraising dates (#GivingTuesday, Trans Day of Visibility, Give OUT Day, etc), and grant cycles.
• Hold ownership of the volunteer-based Development & Fundraising Committee, which discusses and shares responsibilities for possible grant research, applications, and reporting; fundraising priorities and strategies; and the fiscal health of the organization.
• Participate in collaborative budget management processes with Co-Directors, Bookkeeper, and Board members.

Donor Engagement & Stewardship

• Create and execute a strategy for new donor research, donor re-engagement, and donor stewardship.
• Manage local donors through email, phone, and/or in-person meetings.
• Be responsible for data management related to donors and fundraising efforts, including ensuring the implementation of best practices to ensure CRM data quality, and accurate tracking of donor engagement.

Events

• Oversee the creation and management of an annual fundraising event calendar.
• Establish the budget, fundraising goals, and content/themes for all fundraising-related events.
• Develop standardized templates for event hosting, with workplans that include major milestones and responsible parties, due dates, and event run of shows, as well as related event policies and procedures.
• Represent Translate Gender at community events related to the organizational mission.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience in fundraising, development and donor management;
• At least 2-3 years of professional social media and marketing experience;
• Experience with non-hierarchical, social-democratic, or consensus-based working structure (co-op, collective, etc.) preferred;
• Local to Western MA (Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire, or Franklin county);
• Able to attend in person meetings/events/programs as needed;

Additional Position Details:

• This is a hybrid position with the expectation to attend and support in-person events, gatherings, and programs as appropriate;
• The pay rate is $35 / hour and does not include health benefits (at this time);
• 40 hrs/ year paid time off;
• Earned sick time (1 hr for every 30 hours worked);
• Part-time W-2 employee position (15-20 hours per week);
• Flexible start date, first week of Nov. or sooner preferred

Since 2006, we have led efforts to fight gender oppression and educate communities about our needs as trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive people.
