Technical Writer III - School of Public Health

We are hiring a Technical Writer III (Full-time) to join the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, TX. In this role, you will collaborate with the HICCAP team to review complex medical and financial data regarding health insurance mandate bills. They transform intricate summary documents into concise one-pagers and also create longer reports explaining the financial, medical, and public health impacts of proposed insurance mandates for legislative audiences.

Position Summary:

Provides editorial skills in connection with all phases of the preparation and issuance of technical reports, articles, one-page summaries and related materials for health insurance mandate bill analysis completed under the Health Impact, Cost, Coverage and Analysis Program (HICCAP).

Position Key Accountabilities:

• Responsible for translating complex medical, scientific, financial and regulatory information into clear, concise, and compliant documentation.
• Organizes and supervises a variety of tasks performed in producing specialized publications that are technical in nature.
• Arranges format and coordinates all required materials. Consults with content specialists for technical accuracy.
• Maintains publications standards. Keeps abreast of technological advancements to implement or revise programs.
• Trains and advises staff in the use of computerized text editing programs and formatting programs.
• Makes recommendations for new documents.
• Schedules production of documentation, revises publication standards to reflect new procedures, equipment, and hardware, and evaluates new editing and formatting programs.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

• Understanding of the Texas Legislative process, preferred.
• Ability to translate complex medical and financial information into easy to understand documents for Texas Legislators, preferred.

Minimum Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in English, Technical Writing or related field required. Experience in Clinical and Healthcare Regulatory writing preferred.

Minimum Experience:

• 3 years Experience in writing, editing, and producing technical documents required 2 years Experience in publishing copyrighted user documentation for computer applications preferred

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
