Position Summary: The Cook or Chef is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, culturally appropriate meals in a shelter environment that supports children and youth. This role requires a strong understanding of food safety, sanitation standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food service, committed to the well-being of minors, and capable of maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming dining space. We are looking for a dependable team player who values consistency, compassion, and community care. Key things to know: Salary: $20.81 Hourly (Bi-weekly pay) Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays Travel: Minimal; may include occasional local errands or supply pickups. MUST BE FLUENT IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH

High school diploma or GED Minimum one (1) year of experience in food preparation or institutional cooking Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods Must pass background checks and health screenings Experience working in environments serving children or vulnerable populations preferred Key Responsibilities: Prepare and serve daily meals and snacks according to menu plans and dietary guidelines Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dining areas, and equipment Monitor food inventory and assist with ordering supplies Follow all food safety regulations and agency protocols Collaborate with program staff to support special dietary needs and meal accommodations Participate in inspections, audits, and ongoing training Promote a positive and respectful atmosphere in the dining area Core Competencies: Reliability and punctuality in a structured environment Attention to detail and commitment to food safety Compassionate service mindset, especially when working with youth Ability to work independently and as part of a team Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic shelter setting Strong organizational skills and time management #J-18808-Ljbffr Compass Connections
