). Full‑time, permanent position responsible for the maintenance, inspection, repair, and operational readiness of the FBI’s automotive fleet. Working hours are 8:15 am–5:00 pm, subject to division needs. Job Summary The Equipment Specialist conducts a broad range of vehicle maintenance activities, including initial inspection and diagnosis, technical research, repair coordination, and ensuring all vehicles comply with manufacturer specifications and federal regulations. Duties include inspection, testing, corrective action, and preparation of new vehicles for fleet assimilation. Key Requirements U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license. Some travel may be required. Experience in automotive repair/maintenance or nationally recognized diagnostic scan‑tool certification. Physical Demands Exposure to cuts, bruises, burns, and vehicle fluids. Imposed tasks such as standing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 20 lb routinely and occasionally up to 50 lb. Work in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Major Duties Maintain operational readiness of automotive fleet and related equipment. Inspect, test, and perform corrective actions; prepare new vehicles for assimilation into the fleet. Conduct technical research, determine past equipment performance, and evaluate corrective actions for cost effectiveness and technical efficiency. Ensure vehicle compliance with manufacturer specifications and oversee registration, tags, titles, and state inspections. Specialized Experience Applicants may substitute specialized experience (SE) for a degree. SE requirements vary by grade. GS‑9 At least one year of SE equivalent to GS‑7, including vehicle maintenance and inspections of brakes, air conditioning, and anti‑theft devices. Operational assessments using computer diagnostics. Liaison with internal customers and external vendors. Analysis of warranties, services, and supplies. GS‑11 At least one year of SE equivalent to GS‑9, including hybrid vehicles, drive‑assistance, airbags, electronic systems, and vehicle networks. Diagnosis, troubleshooting, and inspection for fleet assimilation. Analysis of technical data; maintenance of vehicular and non‑vehicular equipment. Liaison with customers and vendors; research industry trends for cost‑effective improvements. Education Degrees must be from an accredited institution; for GS‑9 a master’s or equivalent may substitute, and for GS‑11 a doctoral degree or equivalent. Foreign education may be accepted if comparable to a U.S. accredited institution.
