We're partnering with the State of Rhode Island's Office of Healthy Aging to find a dedicated Legal Advocate to serve as the statewide Legal Assistance Developer (LAD), working to secure, protect, and advance the legal rights of older adults across Rhode Island.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, detail-oriented professional who can demonstrate a strong commitment to elder rights advocacy and a proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across the aging network.

Pay & Job Highlights
Pay Rate: $27 per hour
Location: Cranston, RI

Responsibilities of the Legal Advocate:

• Develop strategies to strengthen access to justice and legal services, advise agency leadership on elder law trends, and incorporate legal assistance priorities into the State Plan on Aging.
• Coordinate statewide legal assistance services funded under the Older Americans Act, promoting equitable access and identifying unmet legal needs among older adults with the greatest economic and social need.
• Provide technical assistance, consultation, and training to Adult Protective Services, legal assistance providers, Long-Term Care Ombudsman Programs, and other aging network partners.
• Lead public education and outreach initiatives on elder rights, abuse prevention, consumer protection, planning, and alternatives to guardianship.
• Monitor statewide legal capacity, analyze program data, and build collaborative relationships with state agencies, courts, and community partners to identify service gaps and recommend improvements.

Qualifications of the Legal Advocate:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in legal and/or human and social services, or a related field.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in elder law, legal services, aging policy, public administration, or a related field.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills, with experience in program administration and public policy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to analyze and evaluate data to identify trends and inform program improvements.
