BWC Core Hours – BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday‑Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, though daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on‑site at one of BWC’s seven offices across Ohio. BWC offers flex‑time schedules that allow an employee to start the day as early as 7:00 am or as late as 8:30 am, subject to supervisor approval. The location for these positions will be determined based on the final recommendation. What You’ll Be Doing Complete assigned nurse referral tasks for clinical recommendations supported by medical information, including critical decision making for initial and additional allowance(s), physician review/exam referrals, quality assurance reviews, ICD‑10 coding and description modification requests, and special medical functions for death, permanent, and total disability claims. Review and analyze subjective and objective evidence for medical indicators to determine if they were caused by or unrelated to the workplace injury/illness; identify and report claims situations requiring further clarification or physician review. Serve as the clinical subject matter expert on BWC medical service specialist (MSS) policies and procedures for internal and external parties, performing related duties as required. Maintain data tracking processes and adhere to timeliness and quality standards; participate in quality reviews as assigned. Collaborate with BWC Claims, Managed Care Organization (MCO), injured worker, employers, and/or providers to solve medical or claim barriers and achieve optimal claim outcomes for recovery and return to work. Current & Valid License – Must hold a current license to practice professional nursing as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in Ohio, issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723.03 of the Ohio Revised Code, with a minimum of six months of active practice. Job Skills Nursing Major Worker Characteristics Knowledge of nursing, federal & state laws, BWC policies & procedures, case management strategies, ICD & ICD‑M codes, interviewing, public relations, medical techniques, procedures, and definitions. Proficiency in interpreting diagnoses, assessing limitations, writing accurate medical reports, and comprehending medical charts, manuals, and journals. Capability to handle routine inquiries from injured workers, employers, physicians, attorneys, government officials, providers, or the general public. Ability to independently review medical bills to analyze costs and determine appropriateness. Additional Qualifications Experience with BWC medical service specialist (MSS) policies and procedures. Strong analytical, ethical, reasoning, strategic thinking, and written communication skills. Location – United States of America, Ohio; primary location within the state offices.
