Lead Teacher, Special Education, Substantially Separate Program - Boston (2026-2027)

Lead Teacher, Special Education, Substantially Separate Program – KIPP Academy Boston Charter School The Special Education Sub‑Separate Lead Teacher will instruct a small group of students in core content areas (Math, Reading, Humanities, and Science) and provide classroom support with aides and/or other teachers. The role involves working collaboratively with classroom teachers during inclusion opportunities, managing IEP paperwork, communicating with families, and creating accommodations and modifications for students. The teacher is also a case manager and a professional growth leader, empowering students to achieve academic and social–emotional success. Key Responsibilities Lead instruction in 1–4 content areas or IEP‑goal‑based instruction for a small group of students, including: Create aligned daily lesson plans, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments. Modify standards across up to four content areas to meet program needs. Implement a modified grading scale as needed per IEPs. Set ambitious goals with students and leverage resources to achieve them. Use best practices for special education to deliver engaging, rigorous, and accessible instruction. Infuse core values into lessons and school practices. Complete Functional Behavior Assessments with BCBA guidance when needed. Provide healing‑centered instruction and create a supportive classroom culture. Collaborate with a psychologist to develop and run trauma‑informed, social‑emotional, and life‑skills groups. Ensure all children feel affirmed, valued, and challenged daily. Execute MCAS Alternate Assessment portfolios for applicable students. School And Professional Responsibilities Obtain required MTEL and SEI endorsements with financial support from KIPP MA within the first year (preferred: obtain special‑education licensure as soon as qualified). Provide secondary content support when not leading the classroom. Design, execute, and refine the vision for student culture with school leaders. Monitor progress toward academic and social‑emotional goals. Lead the 504 and IEP processes for all students in the classroom. Collaborate with counselors and team members to implement Behavior Support Plans. Participate in school‑wide and individual professional development, including summer pre‑service training and weekly sessions. Take ownership of professional growth: meet coaches regularly, implement feedback, engage in co‑planning, and participate in live coaching. Perform support duties such as coverage, bus, lunch, and dismissal. Develop strong relationships with families through events and consistent communication. Offer and receive constructive feedback to foster a professional working atmosphere. Collaborate with grade‑level and content teams to address challenges and implement grade‑wide systems. Collaborate with related service providers and general‑education teachers. Maintain dependable attendance according to the school calendar. Engage in regional professional development and community events as required. Demonstrate analytical thinking, data interpretation, and sound judgment in a timely manner. Maintain self‑awareness, flexibility, and emotional intelligence in a diverse setting. Use interpersonal skills to support behavioral and emotional needs, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. Communicate effectively in person, in writing, and on virtual platforms. Maintain physical mobility sufficient for classroom duties and emergency situations. Exhibit manual dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Qualifications Deep alignment with KIPP MA’s mission and values. Demonstrated ability to drive student growth and create a warm, inclusive, rigorous learning environment. Passion for Special Education and Healing‑Centered Learning; commitment to professional development. 2+ years of full‑time teaching experience (Special Education preferred). Preferred: Special Education licensure. Prior experience with Special Education laws and paperwork (preferred, but not required). Bachelor’s Degree required. Computer literacy and familiarity with Google Suite. Pass a Criminal Background Check. Compensation and Benefits The minimum base salary for this exempt position is $63,000 to $102,500 per 1.0 FTE/45 hours per week, based on relevant experience after earning a Bachelor’s degree. Additional compensation includes a $1,000 signing bonus, an annual $2,000 retention bonus in subsequent years, and other eligible bonuses. This role follows the KIPP MA School Year calendar.
