Property Accountant

Property Accountant (Staff Accountant – Real Estate)We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant (Staff Accountant) with experience in real estate accounting to join our growing finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties while ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards. This position requires a strong understanding of property accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger management.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.Perform monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.Record journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments.Reconcile tenant accounts, security deposits, CAM charges, and rental income.Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.Review and process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions related to assigned properties.Prepare budget-to-actual variance reports and assist with annual budgeting.Coordinate with property managers to resolve accounting discrepancies and provide financial support.Assist with external audits and tax preparation by providing required documentation.Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).2+ years of accounting experience, including experience in real estate or property accounting.Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.Experience with property management/accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, RealPage, or similar systems is preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Preferred QualificationsExperience accounting for commercial and/or multifamily real estate portfolios.Knowledge of CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and fixed assets.CPA or CPA candidate is a plus, but not required.BenefitsCompetitive salaryMedical, dental, and vision insurance401(k)Paid time off and company holidaysCareer growth and professional development opportunities
