Duration: ~6 Months
The hourly pay rate is commensurate with experience and is an estimated rate provided by WorkGenius.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fleet Support Engineer to help maximize the uptime, reliability, and operational readiness of an advanced vehicle fleet. This position will provide hands-on technical support for daily fleet operations, serving as a key engineering resource for diagnosing and resolving complex issues across vehicle hardware, software, perception systems, and sensors.
The ideal candidate has strong vehicle troubleshooting experience, is comfortable working with cross-functional engineering teams, and can take technical problems from initial escalation through root-cause identification and resolution. This individual will also help improve diagnostic processes, maintain technical documentation, analyze fleet data, and develop corrective actions that reduce repeat failures.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as a primary engineering escalation point for real-time technical issues involving vehicle systems and subsystems.
* Investigate complex fleet failures by reviewing logs, diagnostic information, sensor data, and other vehicle data to determine root cause.
* Develop, maintain, and continuously improve troubleshooting documentation used by technicians, incorporating newly discovered failure modes and validated repair procedures.
* Perform hardware bring-up, integration, and validation for new perception and sensor components, including LiDAR, radar, cameras, and related hardware.
* Create and implement diagnostic procedures that make future troubleshooting more efficient and repeatable, with particular emphasis on sensor calibration and data integrity.
* Analyze historical vehicle and fleet data to identify failure patterns, performance trends, and emerging reliability concerns.
* Partner with engineering design teams to enhance diagnostic tools and improve the ability to detect, isolate, and resolve vehicle issues.
* Develop and deploy corrective actions and fleet-wide countermeasures to reduce the likelihood of recurring failures.
* Define the appropriate data and performance indicators needed to verify that an issue has been successfully resolved and determine whether implemented solutions are effective.
* Collaborate across engineering, operations, service, and other technical organizations to drive continuous improvements in fleet reliability, vehicle performance, and operational uptime.
* Provide overtime support when business or operational needs require it, with advance notice when possible.
* Travel occasionally within the United States to provide engineering support at various operational sites.
Required Qualifications
* 6+ years of relevant professional experience within autonomous vehicles, transportation, aerospace, or a related technical field, with specific exposure to perception systems and sensor technologies.
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
* Hands-on experience safely diagnosing and troubleshooting both low- and high-voltage electrical circuits.
* Working knowledge of Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) and related vehicle diagnostic methodologies.
* Strong understanding of hardware and software system architectures, including the communication interfaces required to support vehicle systems in an operational environment.
* Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot vehicle issues from a system-level perspective, working from high-level functional symptoms to isolate failures at the component level.
* Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, connector end views, pinouts, and other technical documentation.
* Self-motivated and capable of independently driving technical investigations and problem resolution.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships across engineering and operational organizations.
* Ability to successfully complete required background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience working with electric vehicle technologies and systems.
* Experience providing remote technical support for vehicle diagnostics and troubleshooting.
* Strong familiarity with vehicle systems, diagnostic processes, and associated engineering tools.
* Experience working in Linux environments and using Python for fleet-level data processing, analysis, or diagnostic automation.
* Experience developing, integrating, or troubleshooting software that directly interfaces with vehicle hardware.
* Working knowledge of networking concepts and technologies, including TCP and socket programming.
