English & History Teacher

Essex North Shore is seeking an English & History Teacher (0.5 FTE each content area) for the 2026-2027 school year.

Licensable or licensure in both English (8-12) and History (8-12) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Satisfactory CORI, SAFIS, and SORI required.

Bilingual preferred.

Academic Teacher

The Academic Teacher will work to support student growth and achievement in all aspects of education.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as Exempt (Salaried/Professional).

REPORTING STRUCTURE: The Academic Teacher reports to the Coordinator or their designee.

Qualifications

• Hold an appropriate Massachusetts academic teaching license.
• Bachelor's degree in related content field required.
• Master's degree required within five years of employment.
• Knowledge of technology, such as computers and related software.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent-Director may find appropriate and in conformity with state and federal law.

Duties

• Provide instruction in accordance with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in the specified content area, as assigned.
• Teach CTAE Pathways and/or Theory classes to students in all four grade levels, as assigned.
• Develop lesson plans with clear objectives and measurable outcomes and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Facilitate review and reinforcement of new concepts; support students in the completion of their assigned tasks.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to execute students' IEPs, 504 and ML plans, as well as the accommodations and modifications necessary for student success; modify assignments, tests, and quizzes in collaboration with special educators, if required.
• Participate as a member of the content-specific department; collaborate with teachers within the department and within the cluster.
• Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment that supports student learning, engagement, and positive behavior.
• Maintain documentation, including student performance, behavior, progress data, notation of student absences/tardies, and conversations with caregivers and administrators.
• Assess, evaluate, and document student learning and academic progress using a variety of grading methods aligned with curriculum standards.
• Supply content support outside of the general education classroom, as necessary.
• Integrate technology into the curriculum.
• Respond in a timely manner to any correspondence, both oral and written, that comes from a caregiver.
• Participate in conferences and meetings when appropriate; contribute observations and ideas.
• Accept additional responsibilities as may be required under the direction of the Coordinator or their designee.

Physical Working Conditions

This position requires prolonged periods of standing and/or sitting at a desk. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. The position may require in and out-of-district travel.

Terms and Conditions of Employment

• This is a 10-month position.
• Salary and fringe benefits are established in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the District and HTF.
