We are seeking to hire a Maintenance Engineer for our East Hartford, CT paper mill. This role is responsible for improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and supporting safe and efficient maintenance operations. The Maintenance Engineer will work closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and contractors to plan maintenance activities, improve equipment performance, and support capital and reliability projects across the mill.

What we need from you:

Maintenance Planning & Reliability

• Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
• Plan and prioritize daily, weekly, and shutdown maintenance activities in partnership with Maintenance and Operations leadership.
• Develop clear maintenance plans, work scopes, and job packages to ensure technicians have the parts, tools, and information needed to complete work efficiently.
• Use the CMMS system to manage maintenance scheduling, preventive maintenance, inspections, and work orders.
• Analyze equipment performance and maintenance history to identify recurring failures, excessive maintenance costs, and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop equipment Bills of Materials (BOMs), spare parts requirements, and repair strategies to improve equipment availability and maintainability.
• Apply engineering, reliability, and problem-solving principles to troubleshoot equipment and process issues.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure maintenance activities are planned and executed safely and in accordance with mill safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Review and maintain Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and documentation.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation to support regulatory, insurance, safety, and operational requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors to ensure work is properly planned, executed, and completed in accordance with mill requirements.

Projects & Cost Management

• Assist with the development and management of the annual maintenance budget.
• Identify opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency and reduce equipment lifecycle costs.
• Manage capital maintenance and equipment improvement projects from planning through completion.
• Support purchasing and vendor coordination for equipment repairs, parts, and maintenance services.
• Evaluate maintenance needs and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions that improve reliability and production performance.

Continuous Improvement & Cross-Functional Support

• Partner with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and other departments to improve equipment performance and manufacturing reliability.
• Identify and implement practical improvements to maintenance processes, equipment, and work practices.
• Use data, predictive maintenance results, and maintenance history to support proactive decision-making.
• Communicate maintenance priorities, equipment concerns, project updates, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Promote a culture of safety, reliability, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Three to five years of experience in maintenance planning, scheduling, engineering, or a related industrial environment.
• Experience in a continuous manufacturing environment; paper industry experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance and equipment reliability practices.
• Experience with a maintenance management system; I-Maintenance experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; AutoCAD experience is preferred.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and schedule work based on safety, equipment criticality, production needs, and available resources.
• Self-directed and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• All candidates must pass pre-employment screening, drug screen, physical and criminal background screening.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Work is performed in both office and industrial manufacturing environments.
• Regular exposure to heat, cold, humidity, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
• Ability to safely climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, push, pull, and navigate industrial work areas.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
• Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in the mill.
