Electric Transmission Siting & Permitting Lead - California (Remote within CA)

The Opportunity:Tetra Tech is adding an Electric Transmission Siting & Permitting Lead to provide strategic leadership for our California Transmission sector, with influence across the Western U.S. This role is critical to shaping market direction, expanding client relationships, growing service offerings, and delivering high-quality transmission siting, routing, and permitting services.This position is affiliated with our Irvine, CA office but may be remote within California. Discover your full potential – join us to advance your career while leaving a lasting legacy.Key Responsibilities:Business Development & GrowthIdentify, pursue, and win large electric transmission projects and programsLeverage existing relationships with utility and developer clientsReview and respond to RFIs, RFPs, and RFQsLead opportunity go/no-go evaluations and proposal scope and cost developmentGrow key transmission client accounts in coordination with Energy Program leadership, with a focus on California and the Western U.S.Recruit, develop, and retain project managers and specialist staffBuild in-house transmission sector expertise and best practicesCollaborate closely with Renewable Energy account managers and business development teamsMaintain continuous professional development and industry knowledgeStrategic PlanningIdentify industry trends and develop a long-term market and client strategyEstablish and expand new service areas aligned with transmission and energy infrastructureAnticipate evolving client needs, regulatory drivers, and industry dynamicsEnhance Tetra Tech’s transmission capabilities, geographic footprint, and integrated service deliveryLeadership & Practice DevelopmentDirect marketing and business development activities for the Transmission SectorLead outreach efforts including white papers, conferences, and seminarsSupport development of multi-disciplinary teams, including engineering, survey, and geotechnical staffPromote Tetra Tech’s culture with a strong focus on health, safety, and qualityProject Management & Technical ExecutionServe as Senior Project Manager delivering transmission siting, routing, and permitting projectsManage multi-disciplinary teams and technical approaches to deliver projects on time and within budgetAct as Senior Advisor to mentor and support Project ManagersServe as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for transmission siting, routing, and permittingWork safely at all times and report health and safety incidents or concernsPerform additional duties as requiredQualifications:Capabilities & CredentialsHigh-integrity professional with a strong commitment to deliveryStrategic thinker with deep experience in the electric transmission sectorProven ability to develop innovative, client-focused solutionsStrong leadership, influencing, and team-building skillsRecognized market leader with sustained client relationshipsAbility to travel up to 25%Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.Education & Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering (required)Graduate degree in a technical, business, or marketing field (preferred)15+ years of experience in the Transmission sector, preferably within consultingIn-depth knowledge of California siting application requirementsExperience providing expert witness testimony to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)Demonstrated knowledge of California regulatory agencies, including:California Energy CommissionCalifornia Coastal CommissionCalifornia State Lands CommissionCalifornia Department of Fish and WildlifeState Water Resources Control BoardExperience with CEQA, NEPA, federal and state permitting, transmission infrastructure, and renewable energyWorking knowledge of GIS and routing/siting softwareLife at Tetra Tech:The perks of working at Tetra Tech include:Comprehensive and market-competitive benefits. Compensation:Pay commensurate with experience.Pay Range: $160,000 - $225,000 annuallyPay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.At Tetra Tech, health and safety play a vital role in our success.
