All CFSD educators are expected to uphold the District’s core values of EQUITY, EMPOWERMENT, and EXCELLENCE as they work toward building relationships with students/colleagues, delivering personalized, high-quality instruction, cultivating strong partnerships with our families and community, and meeting all position expectations and District policies. Certified staff are expected to abide by the Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards and the CFSD/CFTU collective bargaining agreement policies and procedures. Guided by the District’s Strategic Plan, we strive to prepare all students for success! General Duties: Full classroom responsibilities include planning and implementing high-quality math, literacy, science, social studies, and SEL instruction that is accessible to the individual needs of all students. Creates and implements a compelling vision of the curriculum, teaching, and learning standards and practices that align with the Common Core and WIDA 2020 Standards and will result in college and career readiness for each and every student. Will implement, develop, and manage students and all of their provided services, including assigned Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and co-teaching (as needed) in accordance with all State and Federal Regulations. Collaborate as part of a teaching team as indicated by student needs and/or IEPs. Cooperatively plan, teach, and engage as part of a team with other educators by providing services in or outside the classroom to meet IEP needs. Incorporates students’ backgrounds and experiences to improve performance and enhance instruction by using a variety of techniques to ensure content concepts are comprehensible and advance students’ literacy. Develop and implement classroom and curricular accommodations and modifications for all students, including language development adaptations for MLLs. Implement district-approved curriculum, instruction, and assessments aligned with Rhode Island State Standards and WIDA 2020. Integrate WIDA 2020 standards into the core content curriculum to meet their Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing English Language Proficiency (ELP) goals. May be responsible for teaching Dedicated English Language Development (ELD) with district-approved ELD curriculum. Use evidence-based practices and strategies to deliver English instruction based on students’ WIDA performance levels and the WIDA 2020 ELD standards. Ability to identify new approaches and strategies to learning and teaching that stimulate critical thinking and problem-solving techniques. Provides instructional support to scaffold language and content domains, delivering rich, authentic instruction for all students. Uses various assessment information to plan instruction and set all academic goals, plans, activities, and actions in the best interest of each student. Cultivates a stewardship of collaborative learning and leadership in and out of the classroom, distributing knowledge and expertise in a skillful way that empowers and supports others. Consistently practice a growth mindset, demonstrating a strong class culture and using feedback to reflect and set goals. Fulfils high academic standards and shares expertise constantly with support personnel, colleagues, and staff to ensure that all student academic and social/emotional needs are met and regularly provided; specifically, collaborating with special education and MLL colleagues to provide accommodations outlined in a student’s IEP when needed and collaborating with staff to align curriculum with Common Core and WIDA 2020 Standards Framework. Ability to understand, analyze, and evaluate information and make connections among multiple factors, data points, ideas, learning styles, personalities, and potential solutions to make the best decision possible. Incorporate a student\'s background into the lesson plan and understand how to draw linguistic connections to prior development in the student\'s native language. Sets and pursues meaningful goals based on educational best practices and focused on improving student/stakeholder outcomes at all times. Consistently demonstrates a belief that the individual is capable of learning and growth; learns from reflection and feedback, and actively assesses own knowledge, skills, and talent deficits and makes a concerted effort to close gaps. Empowers students to become self-motivated, responsible, and resilient learners. Maintains a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes the academic, social, and personal well-being of all students. Ensure that practices enable students, staff, and parents to interact effectively in a culturally diverse environment where ALL backgrounds, identities, customs, and traits are respected and integrated into the learning process. Demonstrates ethical behavior, expectations, and a genuine concern for others under all circumstances; models what is expected of others. Completes all tasks, reports, and all requirements associated with teaching a class in a timely manner. Maintain and use adaptive/assistive technology as needed. Effectively communicates with families regularly to discuss student performance, attendance, progress, etc., via phone calls, emails, and written correspondence. Other duties as deemed necessary by Administrators or Directors. Job Requirements Position Requirements and Qualifications: Valid RI Teaching Certificate in elementary education, Grades K - 6, required. Valid RI Teaching Certification in ESOL required or complete certification through an approved program within 3 years. Bilingual- Spanish preferred. Demonstrated commitment to innovative instructional programming with a focus on personalization. Demonstrated commitment to all families through consistent and intensive family engagement efforts and community outreach. Demonstrated commitment to research-based professional development and collaboration, resulting in improved student outcomes and achievement. Engage in required professional development and collaboration sessions to support and improve Veterans Memorial Elementary School. Experience with successfully teaching students who are differently-abled and/or multilingual learners is greatly preferred. Strong commitment to the District’s core values of Equity, Empowerment, and Excellence Commitment to abiding by all professional teaching standards and policies as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Education and the District’s policies, procedures, and the CFTU collective bargaining agreement. Under RI General Law 16-2-18.1, all NEWLY hired employees will be required to obtain a State and National background check prior to the employment start date. CPI certification required Certificate of Proficiency Level training in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy is required.
