Elementary Teacher – Grade 4 – Waddington East Providence School Department Alice M. Waddington Elementary School – Riverside, Rhode Island Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Class Title: Teacher Department: School Classification: Teacher – 183 days Immediate Supervisor: Principal and/or Designee Class Description Under the direction of the Principal and/or Designee, the teacher serves as the educational leader in his or her classroom and is responsible for the education of the youth placed in his or her charge. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead the classroom, creating a favorable learning environment. Improve and enrich instruction. Serve as a guidance teacher. Encourage child–parent–teacher communication. Pursue professional development through continuing teacher education. Follow federal guidelines for instruction methods. Collaborate with principal, department head, and fellow teachers to solve education problems. Adjust practices to meet individual students’ needs and seek specialist support when needed. Administer and use mental ability, achievement, and other authorized tests in a prescribed manner. Attend and contribute to meetings called by principal or department head. Maintain membership in professional organizations related to teaching. Support school public‑relations programs. Identify and nurture students’ unusual talents. Stay informed on general educational practices across K‑12. Assist with inventories, budgets, library ordering, and other school reports. Promote good health habits for students. Cooperate with special teachers in physical education, art, and music. Participate in extracurricular activities that broaden student experiences. Provide classroom supervision and cooperate with principal for other supervision needs. Maintain school records and fulfill fire drill requirements. Enforce school rules and regulations. Provide daily safety education to pupils. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Clear understanding of blended and personalized learning theory, pedagogy, and practices; experience delivering professional development. Previous coaching experience, technology proficiency, and knowledge of K‑12 instructional technology. Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills. Professional demeanor, friendly outlook, and willingness to learn. Flexibility and adaptation to a high‑energy environment. Growth mindset and sound judgment. Initiative to solve problems proactively and work independently. Ethical, professional, and respectful in difficult situations. Time‑management skills and follow‑through on tasks. Ability to meet requirements of the State Board of Regents for certification in instruction. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. 3–5 years of teaching experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, presentation, and facilitation skills. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required. Physical Demands Must work in a variety of positions including sitting, standing, stretching, and walking; be able to lift or move light objects up to 10 lbs.; use a step stool if needed; close and color vision required.
