A day in the shop
You roll in, fire up the laptop, and connect to a tractor with JPRO and OEM diagnostic software. A few keystrokes and a multimeter check later, you’ve isolated an electrical fault. By midday, you’ve completed preventive maintenance on a trailer set, then wrapped up with a DOT inspection aligned to FMCSA requirements. Before closing your toolbox, you R&R a clutch and button up a steering repair so the unit is road-ready.
What you’ll tackle- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and mechanical issues on tractors and trailers using standard testing procedures and computer diagnostics (JPRO, OEM software) with a Windows-based setup and multimeters.
- Perform full-spectrum preventive maintenance on a fleet of tractors and trailers.
- Complete DOT inspections in accordance with FMCSA guidelines.
- Execute proper PM tasks: lube services, filter changes, and inspections—covering vehicle appearance inside and out, plus cab-related safety and security checks.
- Handle essential electrical repairs, including replacing starters, alternators, and batteries.
- Inspect and replace basic engine components; perform transmission and clutch R service driveline components.
- Remove and replace steering and chassis components.

- Windows-based diagnostic environment
- Able to lift and/or pull 50 lbs without restriction.
- Comfortable standing or lying for extended periods.
- Flexible range of motion to reach equipment and components.
