The Safety Coordinator will effectively maintain high standards of safety ensuring every employee from management to general staff follow all safety guidelines. This will be completed through training, communication, and site visits. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for investigating and reporting all accidents and injuries and directly manages Worker’s Compensation claims with the carrier. This position will be responsible for maintaining records related to all things safety, perform various safety related administrative functions, and will make frequent site visits to assess and mitigate jobsite safety. LOCATION Hunter-Davisson, Inc. at 1800 SE Pershing Street, Portland, OR 97202 This position is not approved for working remotely. This role is expected to travel to job sites of varying locations to include out of town. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is required to work in an office and at job sites of varying types and conditions. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain OSHA, WASHA and Federal OSHA compliance. Proactively engage in all aspects of company safety program. Ensure supers are performing safety inspection of vehicles. Maintain OSHA 300 log, OSHA 300A, and keep accurate recordable and worker’s compensation records. Annually submit OSHA 300A to Federal OSHA. Perform safety orientations for new hires and assign a safety mentor to the new employee. Coordinate additional role‑specific safety training as required (field technicians versus office staff) upon hire. As employee roles change, ensure employee has continuous and proper role‑specific safety training and PPE. Investigate and report incidents to appropriate parties (management, insurance, OSHA, Tyler’s Automotive, etc.). Chair monthly safety committee meetings. Maintain meeting minutes and publish to the KB for all to access. Ensure Safety Committee members have received safety committee training. Keep a running record of members and ensure new members are rotated on according to the membership schedule. Perform annual ABC STEP application. Continuous STEP score monitoring and implementation of new safety procedures that align with STEP. Maintain employee safety training classes and training log. Maintain personnel safety files. Ensure and coordinate customer‑specific training beyond HD’s in‑house training (such as mandatory OSHA 30 class, etc.). Ensure HD Safety Manual is maintained and updated regularly in compliance with changes to law or internal HD policy. Ensure HD Disaster Preparedness Manual is maintained and updated regularly in compliance with changes to law or internal policy. Maintain and update HD safety reporting forms as needed: Accident Investigation Report, Near Miss Report, Injury Investigation Report, Safety Violation. Perform bi‑annual (every other year) CPR/First Aid training courses as well as additional training when the need arises. Coordinate and perform all in‑house safety training: MEWP, Scissor & Boom Lift, Fork Lift, asbestos awareness, confined space, ladder safety, fall protection, rigging & signaling, certified flagging. Perform safety training refreshers for all staff. Provide technician safety report to field supervisors semi‑annually for reviews. Safety week management and coordination. Maintain electronic SDS forms. Provide oversight to and perform inventory of SDS audits. Ensure new products are added to portal SDS. Check in with supers to ensure they are managing employees with high GreenRoad scores. Assist with an action plan between manager and employee to lower the scores. Manage and administer company Safety Game. Issue appropriate updates and “Safety Bucks” per game rules. Update the Safety Game Scoreboard monthly. Perform site specific safety planning in accordance with customer request. Fill out customer‑related safety onboarding paperwork and any applicable job pre‑qualifications. Attend customer safety meetings as needed. Maintain JHA forms by updating them as needed. Create new JHAs and work with IT Department to build a new form and post to the secure site as needed. Attend annual and quarterly meetings with insurance broker regarding EMR, injuries, etc. Attend safety seminars presented by accredited safety organizations (AGC). Attend semi‑annual Risk Control Workshops out of state in coordination with Management. Maintain safety awareness and safety culture within the company. Perform job site visits frequently. Generate and send out quality weekly ToolBox Talks. Provide safety update to all employees at the company annual meeting. Primary point of contact for OSHA or general contractor inquiries. When a safety issue has been reported, investigate and work with appropriate parties to find an appropriate solution which may include coordinating directly with a customer. Empower employees to utilize a “stop work” permit when needed. When an accident occurs and the supervisor is not available to be present, it is the Safety Coordinator’s responsibility to go to the accident and in some cases, go to the hospital with the employee(s). Ensure supervisors fill out and perform vehicle accident reports. This position must have a high aptitude for performing administrative functions. Previous safety management or administration in the construction industry required. Ability to build strong relationships interdepartmentally. Ability to analyze complex issues, conduct root‑cause investigations, and prepare reports on findings. Willing to work in both a team setting as well as individually. Flexible, accommodating, and adaptable to constant change. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Occasionally climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other climbing devices. Carry tools and equipment; work while in stooped, kneeling, crouched and crawling positions.
