Job Profile Summary: Manages small staff teams and provides consulting to departmental leaders to support the vision, mission, and overall objectives of the department. The HR Manager, Total Rewards functions as an HR operations and employee relations leader, balancing staff supervision, HR consultation, compliance oversight, recruitment support, financial coordination, and strategic partnership to ensure effective workforce management and operational excellence. Essential Duties: Operational Leadership & Administration Assess and improve unit operations, workflows, and procedures to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Develop, implement, and monitor operational objectives aligned with university policies. Prepare and manage administrative reports, documentation, and records. Represent the unit in departmental, college, university, and external meetings and initiatives. â Staff Supervision & Performance Management Supervise and coordinate daily staff activities and workload assignments. Prioritize work based on staff expertise to maximize efficiency and accuracy. Monitor work progress and ensure compliance with established standards. Evaluate employee performance against unit, department, and university goals. Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to staff. â Human Resources Administration Interpret and advise management and staff on university policies, HR procedures, and employment regulations. Assist with the resolution of sensitive employee relations issues. Support management in handling employee complaints, grievances, and disciplinary matters. Facilitate decision-making and recommend appropriate actions for personnel issues. â Policy Compliance & Risk Management Recommend and monitor compliance with departmental and university policies. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Support internal controls and risk mitigation efforts. Serve as a resource on HR-related compliance matters. â Audit & Reporting Management Lead responses to internal and external audit requests. Collaborate with financial specialists to ensure accurate records and compliance. Monitor audit findings and implement corrective actions when necessary. â Strategic Collaboration & University Representation Participate in college- and university-wide initiatives affecting human resources. Partner with the Office of Human Resources (OHR), Finance, and operational units to support institutional goals. Foster collaborative relationships to advance organizational effectiveness and workforce success. â Total Rewards Provide strategic guidance on payroll, benefits, leave administration, and HR-related matters. Support payroll administration, reconciliations, audits, and financial/payroll inquiry resolution. Manage employee location compliance, FLSA processes, and flexible work arrangements in partnership with OGC and OHR. Lead SupOrg audits, organizational maintenance, restructures, and related stakeholder coordination. Advise units on career progression, organizational alignment, profile accuracy, salary equity, and workforce development initiatives, including participation in the Talent Ready pilot program. Partner with OHR Compensation on salary ranges, job profile updates, and compensation issue resolution. Oversee complex employee transactions, including personnel changes, additional pay actions, separations, and leave management. Administer annual renewal processes, including incentive plans, FWAs, TUF processing, postdoctoral salaries, staff compensation adjustments, and graduate wage updates.Lead the university merit process from planning through implementation. Collaborate with the Provost Office to support and oversee academic employee processes, policies, and operations. â Desired Qualifications: Experience with Workday. Experience managing a team. Experience working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities and shortdeadlines. Academic HR experience in higher education. Experience in processing payroll, FMLA leaves, creating/updating work instructions. Demonstrated knowledge of SharePoint Experience using various applications (e.g. Word/Mail Merge, Adobe PDF, Excel/Formulas, etc.) andother tools to prepare letters, forms, and reports. Experience in maintaining strictconfidentiality regarding sensitive/confidential information pertaining to payroll, employeeissues, etc. Experience in handling multiple projects and deadlines. Evidence of having a passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvement. Experience in work that requires organizational and interpersonal skills.
