The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 located in Fairbanks, Alaska!

What you will be doing: This position is a primary source of public information and public service in the Fairbanks ADF&G Public Information Center, providing customers with information about the area, explaining hunting and trapping regulations, issuing permits and harvest tickets, selling licenses and tags, and collecting and recording harvest reports. The incumbent seals animals such as bears, furs, and sheep on a regular basis, maintains vehicles and equipment, and classifies, analyses, and summarizes harvest data. Fieldwork includes responding to nuisance wildlife situations, acting as observer during aerial wildlife surveys, and occasional wildlife capture work.

The working environment you can expect: The position is located at the ADF&G office at 1300 College Road in Fairbanks. The daily work environment involves effective communication and teamwork with office coworkers as well as regular use of a computer while assisting the public in person and over the phone at the information desk or in the laboratory at the Fairbanks office. Fieldwork is required throughout the season and may involve exposure to large animals, insects, inclement weather, firearms, travel by low-level aircraft flight and/or boat or skiff and contact with drugs and chemicals used to immobilize wildlife. Aerial surveys are conducted in small aircraft maneuvering at low altitude for long periods of time in sometimes cold conditions.

Who we are looking for: This position will serve as a permanent seasonal, full-time technician with the Division of Wildlife Conservation in Fairbanks and will be responsible for working as part of a team in the Regional Wildlife Information Center in Fairbanks. The Information Center assists people from around the world, answering questions about hunting and trapping regulations, hunting opportunities, hunter education, and wildlife viewing in the region and statewide. This position provides customer service to the public and assists with providing field and logistical support to research and management biologists throughout Interior and Northeast Alaska. This is currently an 11-month seasonal position. If additional funding is available the position may be extended beyond 11 months, otherwise the selected applicant will be on seasonal leave without pay. The position is overtime eligible. We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

1. Provide high-quality and accurate customer service to diverse groups by explaining complex hunting, fishing, and trapping regulations, issuing permits and licenses, and interacting professionally with a wide variety of customers.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of Alaska's wildlife and habitats by engaging with hunters, trappers, anglers, and wildlife viewers, assisting with human-wildlife interactions, and intervening when necessary to ensure safety and compliance. This includes working with animal carcasses or parts during sealing and sampling, as well as handling live animals for trapping, hazing, or humane euthanasia when required, while following all safety protocols.
3. Possess technical proficiency in data entry and analysis using Microsoft Office and ArcGIS and show attention to detail when following established protocols. Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team while also managing independent tasks in office and remote field settings.

A valid driver's license is required.

First Aid/CPR. For those not already certified, training will be provided by the department at no cost to the employee.

Certification as a State of Alaska Peace Officer is required to enforce Title 5 Alaska Administrative Code and Title 16 Alaska Statutes regarding hunting, fishing and trapping regulations.
