This position supports student success by managing student academic accommodations, supervising student tutors in the Fargo Nursing programs, and assisting with exam proctoring and open lab sessions.
This role ensures equal access under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related laws while using case-management approaches to help at-risk, first-year, and continuing students persist and complete their degrees. - Serve as the primary intake contact for students in the Fargo UJA program requesting disability services; explain eligibility, documentation standards, and the interactive process.
- Review documentation to determine whether a student is a qualified individual with a disability.
- Conduct individualized meetings to identify barriers and determine reasonable academic accommodations.
- Coordinate exam accommodation (extended time, reduced distraction environment, readers/scribes, assistive technology) and maintain testing schedules and chain of custody for exams.
- Monitor accommodation effectiveness; adjust plans as conditions, courses, or environments change; document decisions and rationale.
- Maintain confidential student files and case notes in the designated accommodations/student success system in compliance with FERPA and ADA recordkeeping standards.
- Provide ongoing coaching that builds student self-advocacy, organization, and independent use of approved accommodations.
- Connect students to tutoring, writing support, counseling, career services, financial aid, and community providers; follow through on early-alert referrals when disability or access is a factor.
- Oversee student tutors who may or may not be supporting the reasonable accommodation(s) being provided.
- Consult with staff and faculty on implementation and accessible design of courses without disclosing confidential disability information.
- Support students navigating temporary injuries, pregnancy related needs, and other access issues that intersect with disability or Title IX supportive measures, in coordination with the Title IX coordinator.
- Participate in new student orientation, transition programming, and outreach to prospective and incoming students and families.
- Apply ADA, ADAAA, Section 504, and applicable North Dakota and University requirements to accommodation decisions; escalate complex, high-risk cases to the supervisor.
- Assist with exam proctoring and open lab.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Attend regularly scheduled faculty and staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support institutional access obligations.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, student affairs, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience in ADA/504 and interactive process knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of FERPA and other regulations related to student records and eligibility preferred.
- Proficiency in student information systems preferred.
- Strong training and mentoring abilities.
- Ability to manage a detailed caseload and meet time sensitive deadlines.
- Effective organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct interviews, document the interactive process, and distinguish reasonable accommodations from personal services or fundamental alterations.
- Work involves primarily office setting. The ability to sit for long periods of time is essential.
- Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time and use a computer.
- Requires the ability to lift/push/pull/carry up to 30 pounds
- Requires the ability to occasionally stoop, and bend.
- The position may involve some flexibility of working early evening hours, based on student needs. No weekends. No holidays.
