Food Runner

Job Duties

A food runner delivers prepared dishes from the kitchen to guests promptly, accurately, and professionally, ensuring food quality and temperature. They bridge the gap between back-of-house (kitchen) and front-of-house (servers), and communicating guest needs to the staff.

Core Responsibilities

• Prompt Delivery: Delivering food from the kitchen to the correct guest promptly, often in high-volume environments.

• Order Accuracy: Checking tickets for accuracy and ensuring proper garnishes, special requests, and food temperatures.

• Kitchen-to-Front Communication: Acting as the main link between chefs and service staff.

• Side Work: Restocking, cleaning trays, and completing opening/closing duties.

Key Requirements & Skills

• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand/walk for long shifts and lift heavy trays.

• Communication: Effective communication with kitchen and service staff.

• Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate, high-quality food presentation.

• Speed & Efficiency: Working quickly in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience: Previous experience as a food expeditor, runner, or similar entry-level restaurant role is often preferred.

Common Tasks

• Verifying table numbers and seat positions.

• Refilling beverages.

• Reporting guest complaints to management

• Strong communication and multitasking skills.

• Arrive on time, in full clean uniform.

• Maintain personal hygiene (clean nails, tidy hair, minimal fragrance).
