The Work
The SharePoint Online Migration Specialist is tasked with leading the planning, execution, and support of migrations from legacy SharePoint environments into modern SharePoint Online. This role emphasizes seamless transitions of content, workflows, permissions, and solutions while utilizing modern SharePoint Online capabilities and the Power Platform to modernize and enhance business processes.
This position aligns with Cayuse’s core values of Innovation, Excellence, Collaboration, Adaptability, and Integrity by fostering technical solutions that meet customer needs, promoting teamwork, and prioritizing quality in deliverables.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute migrations from SharePoint Subscription Edition and other legacy SharePoint environments into SharePoint Online using enterprise migration tools (e.g., ShareGate, Migration Manager, PowerShell automation).
- Diagnose and resolve migration issues, including throttling, permissions inconsistencies, legacy workflow dependencies, unsupported customizations, and content anomalies.
- Conduct pre‑migration assessments and readiness activities, including content inventory, site and workflow analysis, dependency mapping, and risk identification.
- Produce migration deliverables such as inventory reports, mapping documents, content normalization and remediation plans, cutover plans, and post‑migration validation checklists.
- Coordinate and execute test migrations, pilot migrations, and final cutovers while minimizing business disruption.
- Analyze legacy SharePoint customizations, workflows, and solutions to identify modern equivalents and improvement opportunities in SharePoint Online.
- Convert legacy workflows and forms (e.g., SharePoint Designer workflows, InfoPath forms, classic pages, sandbox solutions) into modern solutions using Power Automate, Power Apps, and/or SharePoint Framework (SPFx) as appropriate.
- Assist business and IT stakeholders in determining the “best fit” replacement patterns for legacy solutions, balancing functionality, maintainability, governance, and cost.
- Collaborate with business owners to translate legacy processes into sustainable, cloud‑ready solutions that leverage modern SharePoint features (e.g., modern pages, lists, libraries, hub sites, Teams integration).
- Design, build, and enhance Power Apps applications connected to SharePoint lists, libraries, and other data sources (e.g., Dataverse, SQL, external APIs).
- Develop Power Automate flows to replace legacy SharePoint Designer workflows, automate routine business processes, and integrate SharePoint with other Microsoft 365 and third‑party services.
- Implement and follow governance-aligned best practices for Power Platform deployments, including environment strategy, solution layering, ALM, and version control.
- Support configuration and use of on‑premises data gateways for secure connectivity to on‑premises data sources (preferred experience).
- Advise business units and site owners on content clean‑up, lifecycle management, restructuring, and metadata enrichment to improve usability, searchability, and compliance.
- Configure and optimize modern SharePoint Online sites, including team sites, communication sites, and hub sites, ensuring appropriate information architecture and navigation.
- Define and configure site security and permissions models aligned with least-privilege principles and organizational governance standards.
- Partner with site owners and content owners to ensure alignment with governance policies, branding standards, regulatory and compliance requirements, and user experience best practices.
- Develop and maintain custom PowerShell scripts (e.g., PnP.PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, CSOM) to automate migration tasks, reporting, content updates, provisioning, and configuration.
- Troubleshoot issues related to PowerShell scripts, APIs, and automation during migration and modernization projects.
- Maintain script repositories, documentation, and reusable automation modules to support repeatable, scalable migration and administration activities.
- Execute and manage migration automation solutions to support bulk site, content, and permissions changes.
- Work closely with project managers, architects, business stakeholders, and technical teams to gather requirements, define migration and modernization strategies, and provide regular status updates.
- Contribute to and/or lead working sessions, discovery workshops, and design reviews.
- Deliver post‑migration support, including issue remediation, user training, knowledge transfer, and hypercare activities following cutover.
- Create and maintain documentation such as migration runbooks, solution designs, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and governance guidance.
- Support adoption and change management efforts by providing input to communications, training materials, and user guides.
- Other duties as assigned.
