Recreation Leader III: Aquatic Camp Counselor Lead The City of Alexandria invites qualified candidates to apply for this role. About the Role Recreation Leaders assist, plan, lead, instruct and guide youth aged 4-11 in arts, crafts, sports, games, swimming and outdoor activities during summer camp (May–August). Camp counselors work Monday‑Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Key Responsibilities Plan, implement and facilitate recreation aquatic‑based activities, programs and arts and crafts to ensure a variety of activities are provided in the summer camp. Ensure pool rules are implemented and followed. Create weekly and daily camp schedules. Follow Recreation Services Workplace Expectations. Ensure all safety precautions and guidelines are followed for all programs and activities. Ensure program participants are properly supervised at all times. Create a positive, nurturing, inclusive and safe program environment. Prepare for recreational activities at one or more sites on a particular date: open site, set up equipment and program materials, ensure rules and regulations are followed, maintain order, store equipment and materials at the end of activities, and secure the site. Complete reports, documentation, and other paperwork as assigned in compliance with the Department's policies and procedures. Communicate professionally (written and verbally) with customers. Participate in staff meetings, in‑service training sessions, and workshops. Perform related work as required. Qualifications High School Diploma and three (3) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
