Recreation Leader IV - Pool Manager Full‑Time Position Overview As a Recreation Leader IV Pool Manager, you will fully lead a team of lifeguards, pool operators, or water safety instructors and manage an aquatics operation. You will supervise aquatics and customer‑service staff, assist with operations at multiple City aquatics facilities and special events, and be designated manager on duty for indoor and outdoor pools. During summer, you’ll oversee the outdoor pool and the implementation of learn‑to‑swim programs, including staff evaluation and program administration. Position Responsibilities Facility Supervision: Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and compliance of the aquatic facility while maintaining documentation; responsible for full operations of an outdoor pool during summer. Staff Supervision: Provide supervision, guidance, training, and support to lifeguards, pool operators, instructors, and customer‑service staff; recruit, hire, onboard, evaluate, and off‑board employees. Program Supervision: Ensure safe, skill‑building learn‑to‑swim programs with required documentation and seasonal implementation. Safety & Training: Perform lifeguarding, pool‑operator duties, certification courses, first‑aid administration, emergency response, staff training, audits, and in‑service sessions. Customer Service: Deliver exceptional service, address concerns, and create a welcoming atmosphere as manager on duty. Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The Pool Manager is a supervisory position that requires leadership skills, knowledge of water safety, and experience operating active public swimming pools and aquatics programs with multiple user groups. Candidates must maintain a safe, clean environment, lead by example, demonstrate a commitment to excellence, and be available for flexible assignments early morning, mid‑day, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications Associate degree and four (4) years of experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid deep‑water certification from American Red Cross or an equivalent nationally recognized provider. Nationally‑recognized pool‑operation certification. At least two (2) years of supervisory experience. Ability to acquire Lifeguard Instructor certification from the American Red Cross within six (6) months of hire date. Certified Aquatic Facility Operator from NRPA and Certified Service Technician for Pools & Spas. Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification from American Red Cross. Two years of progressively responsible experience in aquatics, including experience at the level of Recreation Leader III or equivalent. Customer‑focused and proven ability to work successfully with others. Experience in leading or implementing aquatics programming. Cash handling and cashier or front‑desk experience. Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook). Experience with recreation registration software.
