Assistant Underwriter - Construction

Salary Range: $60,000.00 To $65,000.00 Annually About Origin Specialty Underwriters Origin Specialty Underwriters is a fast-growing MGA specializing in hard-to-place construction risks. Position Summary The Underwriting Assistant supports the underwriting and management of construction risks, including site preparation, excavation, grading, utility, earthmoving, and infrastructure contractors. This role works closely with brokers, underwriters, and leadership to support profitable growth and exceptional service. Key Responsibilities Review and process new and renewal submissions. Analyze risk characteristics, loss runs, and underwriting information. Assist with pricing, quoting, policy issuance, and documentation. Manage renewal activity and support portfolio profitability goals. Build strong relationships with wholesale brokers. Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and authority levels. Collaborate with underwriting, claims, actuarial, and risk control teams. Preferred Industry Experience Experience with one or more of the following contractor classes: Site Preparation Excavation Utility Grading & Earthmoving Sewer & Water Main Infrastructure Concrete & Paving Landscaping Qualifications: Required 1-3 years of commercial insurance experience Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Experience reviewing loss runs and risk information Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Preferred MGA, E&S, or specialty insurance experience Experience with site prep, excavation, utilities, or infrastructure risks What Success Looks Like Support a profitable construction book of business Deliver responsive service to broker partners Maintain underwriting discipline and accuracy Contribute to portfolio growth and retention Annual bonus opportunity Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match PTO and paid holidays Professional development and designation support Join Origin Specialty Underwriters and help build a growing construction insurance platform with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact from day one.
