Our organization is in search of a Nocturnal Advanced Practice Provider for the Pulmonary Critical Care unit. This role involves evaluating, planning, and delivering patient care under the guidance of a physician. The provider will conduct thorough physical assessments, gather patient medical histories, and compile relevant medical data. Responsibilities include ordering and interpreting necessary laboratory and imaging tests, participating in daily patient rounds, documenting progress notes, educating patients, prescribing medications, and preparing discharge summaries.

Weekly Hours: Varies

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 7 days on, 7 days off

Focus of Patient Population: Inpatient

Age Range of Patient Population: 13 years to end of life

This nocturnist position includes a $5,000 commencement bonus!

Minimum Required Training and Experience:

Applicants must have completed an accredited Physician Assistant program and hold or be eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or have finished an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and hold or be eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) as specified below:

• APRN
• AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Focus on adult patients (ages 13 to end of life), managing stable chronic diseases or providing primary care.
• FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): Focus on patients from birth to end of life, managing stable chronic diseases and providing primary care across all ages.

Required Experience: A minimum of 2 years in an ICU setting.

Preferred qualifications include:

• APRN License Type/Certification:
• AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner): Focus on adult patients (ages 13 to end of life) who are acutely ill, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent (e.g., on ventilators, drips, monitors).

Degree of Supervision: The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by our organization and will report directly to this physician.

Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations:

All certifications must be current and completed before the start date:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• If applicable, applications for DHEC and DEA licenses must be initiated prior to the first day.

Job Responsibilities:

The provider will deliver direct patient care through the following activities:

• Gathering comprehensive patient histories and conducting physical examinations.
• Evaluating and treating patients based on history, physical exams, radiology, laboratory, and other diagnostic results in accordance with practice agreements or guidelines.
• Performing therapeutic procedures as permitted by procedural privileges and skills approved by the Clinical Division Chief.
• Assisting with or performing various procedures, including but not limited to:
• Lumbar puncture
• Central venous line placement
• Pulmonary artery catheterization
• Arterial line placement
• Endotracheal intubation
• Chest tube placement
• Bronchoscopy
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Suturing/stapling and removal of catheters/tubes/drains as necessary.
• Initiating referrals to other healthcare providers and consulting with attending or collaborating physicians.
• Potentially assisting in the operating room.
• Documenting and billing for the care provided.
• Utilizing current research and evidence-based practices in clinical decision-making.
• Engaging in quality and performance improvement initiatives and clinical research.
• Supporting the organization’s accreditation, compliance, and regulatory efforts.
• Demonstrating commitment to professional development through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
• Possibility of mentoring students from our organization enrolled in advanced practice programs and facilitating the onboarding of new team members.
• Maintaining all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education credits as mandated by applicable policies and state laws.

Physical Requirements: The role requires continuous engagement in job functions while standing, walking, and sitting. Candidates must be able to bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, and fully utilize both hands and legs. Good finger dexterity is essential, along with the ability to perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Candidates must be physically qualified for respirator use, maintain corrected vision of 20/40, and work in a latex-safe environment. The position may involve lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted, exerting up to 50 lbs of force, and lifting items from 36 inches to overhead. Occasional work in dusty or confined spaces may be required.
