Resource Medical Assistant

Job Overview The Resource Medical Assistant functions as a member of the SMP Regional Resource Pools to support various clinic patient care teams. The role involves performing clinical tasks and procedures to support the delivery of care, assisting patients to obtain quality services in a timely manner, and ensuring efficient utilization of resources in the coordination of patient care. The role requires travel to assigned SMP clinics, meetings, and training sessions at various locations. Responsibilities Patient rooming Vital signs monitoring Medical documentation and chart preparation Patient communications Stocking and cleaning of clinic area Medication and supply ordering Medication administration Specimen collection and Point‑of‑Care testing Injections and other clinic procedures Patient outreach to address gaps in care and follow‑up Participation in internal clinic audits Facilitating communication between patient and provider Patient portal and inbox message management Assisting with physician procedures Assisting with referral inquiries Disability paperwork management Rx refill and processing of prior authorization Participating in maintenance of department A3 Assisting providers with telemedicine services if needed Scribing for providers (when needed) Greeting patients and others entering the department courteously and professionally according to performance standards Updating existing patient demographic information Identifying accepted insurance plans Checking patients in and marking them arrived Determining if patient has a co‑payment or account balance, accepting and recording receipt of payment, providing applicable waiver, obtaining appropriate signature, and scanning copies of patient photo ID, insurance card, or waiver as needed Scheduling follow‑up appointments Resolving registration discrepancies via assigned work queues according to performance standards Other duties as assigned Education & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent Medical Assistant Diploma from an approved school/institution or equivalent documented training Experience Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Clinical Medical Assistant Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in an ambulatory care environment preferred Epic experience preferred Licenses & Certifications Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Physical Demands & Work Conditions Frequent sitting, constant walking, constant standing, constant bending, frequent squatting, occasional climbing, occasional kneeling, occasional crawling Constant hand use, frequent repetitive motion, frequent grasping, occasional fine manipulation, frequent pushing and pulling, occasional reaching above shoulder level, frequent twisting and turning of neck and waist Constant vision (color, peripheral, distance, focus) Lifting: frequent lifting of 0‑10lbs, occasional 11‑20lbs, 21‑30lbs, 31‑40lbs; seldom lifting greater than 40lbs Carrying: same pattern as lifting Driving: occasional cars, trucks, forklifts, and other equipment Continuous work around clinical equipment and machinery Exposure: seldom to uneven ground, noise extremes, temperature/humidity extremes, dust, gas, fumes, chemicals, heights; frequent use of respirator; constant work with biohazards such as bloodborne pathogens and hazardous drugs Travel Requirements 20% travel required to assigned clinics, meetings, and training sessions.
